The truth was, Luther was not particularly competent in anything else other than his good leadership skills. Most of the time, he would take advice from his subordinates such as Luke. And he would usually agree with whatever Luke said.
This had led to a lot of people buttering up Luke in order to achieve their own agendas. Naturally, he got a little big-headed as time passed. While on the surface he was somewhat respectful toward Luther, the reality was he looked down upon this man behind his back. As far as he was concerned, he was the true master here and not Luther Ortis.
