"A beer's fine," I said, as Amy pulled one from the fridge and tossed it to me. I cracked it open and sipped the foam that released.
We began to make small talk as Amy poured herself a rather large glass of Cabernet and began sipping from it. We stayed in the kitchen as the pizza cooked, chatting about our lives, our work, our friends, and so on. I don't know if it was my own perception of Amy that had changed or if she'd warmed to me a bit more, but I was really enjoying myself. I'd never seen Amy so engaging. In fact, she reminded me a lot of Susanne back when we'd first started dating.
