They were chatting away and having wine. They didn't seem to be in any hurry to get things under way. I heard Susan ask what 'his' name was and what 'he' looked like but my mom said she couldn't tell her any of that stuff. They carried on chatting for more than 30 minutes. The suspense was killing me. Eventually I heard my mom ask if she should go and call 'him'. There was a long pause before eventually Susan said yes. I punched the air in delight. My mom excused herself, saying that she couldn't make the call there in case she used his name. She came out of the room and locked the door behind her. That must have seemed a bit strange to Susan but it made me less nervous.
I stepped out into the hall as my mom approached. She had a big grin on her face. She grabbed my wrist and led me downstairs.
