In truth, Enrique had no obligation to repay Michael, as he had been injured while trying to protect Irena. While it would have been reasonable for Michael to cover his medical expenses, Enrique adamantly refused to accept the favor. As he had stated, he didn't mind if Michael had a low opinion of him, but he couldn't allow himself to become someone he himself held in contempt.
