Chapter 2
NADIA
I can't imagine what I'm hearing to be true, so Adams has been the one sponsoring my best friend to study abroad and I never knew? I abandoned my dream of being a medical doctor to become his Luna because I loved him so much and wanted to help him become the Alpha of this pack.
Three years ago, his dad got diagnosed with cancer and had only a couple of months to live. He had two sons, Adams and his elder brother. As custom demands, his elder brother was supposed to become the next Alpha but he led a gangster life, indulging in drugs and womanizing. No matter how hard his dad talked, he would never listen. Adams on the other hand was calm and responsible, the perfect candidate for the Alpha status.
“I can't see Davis becoming the Alpha due to his reckless life, he will run the pack and all I've taken years to build.” I can remember the old Alpha saying to Adams. We were together being my best friend. At that time I was just nineteen and freshly graduated from high school while he was already in his final year in college. He was twenty-four.
“But–”
There was a condition.
“You have to get married and show me your Luna, the only criteria to take this position, otherwise I'll have no choice than to leave the position with him.”
There was no better option for Adams than myself as he confessed. I was the only girl he was close to but then I wasn't ready for marriage. My dad even before his death due to pneumonia dreamt of me becoming a doctor but since he couldn't live to see me become this, I promised him I would. This, before his last breath.
“I'll never leave or cheat on you if you marry me. I promise to send you to medical school after three years of our marriage. We will be focused on stabilizing the pack, not even on bearing kids yet till you're done with school,” he had promised while petting me.
I blushed, it sounded so good to be true. Who does marry without wanting kids until about seven to ten years later? Since it was my best friend and confidante saying it, I believed it with all my heart and agreed to forgo my dreams and marry him, his promise sticking to my head.
Little did I know that he would change his mind and break his promise at the exact year he's supposed to keep them.
During these three years, I became a most capable wife and Luna, supporting him in his work and business goals. Within these three years, he established himself in real estate and the fashion industry, building his net worth from thirty thousand dollars which his dad left for him to a multi-millionaire.
I thought I'll sit to enjoy this but all my hope seems to crumble forever. Now, the pain was so unbearable. I turned and fled, sprinting away from the hallway of the hotel, desperate to escape the pain. My feet carried me home, to the pack estate, where I collapsed, consumed by sorrow and heartache.
My wolf's voice echoed within me, firm and resolute. "It's time to break free from this cheater. He must have been in this affair for quite a while, who knows?”
“You deserve better. He didn't even care to hide it.” She said.
When I arrived at the pack estate, I took a deep breath and typed a message that would change my life forever. I posted on our family's group chat: "My marriage with Alpha Adams just ended. I'll cease to be his Luna and yours as of today.” I posted but not saying what he did.
The moment I made this announcement, my phone erupted with a flurry of messages.
Texts and calls flooded in from friends, acquaintances, and even Alpha Adams's inner circle. The most surprising was Alpha Adams himself, who had never initiated contact with me before when off for work as he always claimed. But the most persistent was my mom, whose calls kept coming in.
I decided to pick it.
"Nadia, I didn't raise you to be a fool. You're an omega, the lowest of the low. Being chosen by an Alpha is a privilege, not a right, better than being a doctor. Even though you both were childhood best friends, you didn't qualify to marry him. His dad loved you and Adams chose you. See how you're willing to throw this great privilege away because of your own selfishness and pride.”
“Mom, when he cheated on me, sponsored my best friend to school instead of me?” She didn't even let me air my mind when she cut me up immediately.
“Don't make this mistake, or I'll make sure you regret it. I won't hesitate to teach you a lesson myself.”
“Where will you get the money to send me monthly?”
I sighed at her selfish thoughts. She wasn't even considering me and how hurt I was from this but herself alone. I got pissed and ended the call.
Since my father's passing, my mom has been so controlling, not regarding the promise I made to dad about being a doctor. When Adams proposed marriage and I told her, she snappily asked me to accept.
She saw me and this opportunity as her ticket to a better life. Now barely three years later, Alpha Adams has set my world crumbling.
Back then, Adams was charming, gentle, and we quickly fell deeply in love. For a while, everything seemed perfect. Never in my worst thoughts would I imagine him cheating on me with the girl who supported our love and wished us the very best.
I wasted no time in packing my things, I was not going to let a day meet me in this estate. I wanted to go, I wanted to be free. But all from nowhere, this thought flew in.
“How can I just leave without taking revenge?” I gave a second thought, then shook my head. “I must get back all I'd invested in Adams’ life. He can't deceive me and go scot free.” I promised myself.
Millions of thoughts roamed through my mind on how to go about this before I ended up slumping to the bed, collapsed into a troubled sleep.
My mind traveled to three days coming, it dawned on me being our three years anniversary.
As I arrived home, I hurriedly set the table for our anniversary dinner. I wanted everything to be perfect. I wanted to have a special night with my lovely mate.
As I finished setting the table, I heard a knock at the door. It was Alpha Adams. Our anniversary tradition included lavish gifts - designer ball gowns, Birkin bags - and I couldn't help but anticipate another extravagant surprise. This time, though, my expectations were laced with uncertainty, given the situation on ground.
Alpha Adams stood before me, holding a pink gift bag. Inside was a stunning pink dress. My eyes widened with excitement.
"Oh my!" I exclaimed, throwing my arms around him. "I knew you'd get it for me!" I beamed, feeling a spark of joy despite the earlier conflict.
As I reached for the pink gift bag, Alpha Adams yanked it away. I arched my brows, puzzled by this act when I felt a kick on my foot and sprang up.
Oh, it looked so real. So it was actually a dream?
Before me stood Olga, hands clutched with Alpha Adams. They stood before me, watching me with mocking eyes.
Olga stepped forward, grinning. “I promised to see you when I return. But–” She paused and terror mixed with shock gripped me.
“Not as your best friend but as your Luna.”
My jaw dropped. This betrayal was brutal and uncalled for.
