Chapter 4 His Bestfriend's Little Sister

Eryn POV The ride to school is awkward. Kyle refuses to put on any music to fill the silence between us. Every time I reach for the radio, he slaps my hand away playfully. I keep trying to straighten the pleats of my uniform skirt that got crumpled when Kyle tossed me over his shoulders, but it is a lost cause, and it only makes me angrier at him. Kyle reaches for the gear shift, and I quickly tug my leg away from him. I glance at him from the corner of my eye, and he is looking at me with an odd look on his face. Instantly, I feel silly for thinking that he would be reaching for my leg. Why would he? I am nothing more than his best friend's little sister. Luckily for me, Kyle doesn't say anything about my actions. He pulls into the school's parking lot, and I look at my watch. There are ten minutes to the bell. Plenty of time for me to get to my locker and to class. As soon as Kyle puts the car in park, I fly out of the passenger side. I throw my backpack over one arm and my gym bag over the other and hurry into school. Weaving in and out of the hoard of students, I see Emma waiting by my locker. There is a very smug look on her face. "I see you made it on time," she smirks as I aggressively open my locker. "No thanks to you," I growl in her direction. "I did you a favor," Emma continues to smile. "If the Alpha's son were waiting on me, I would want some alone time with him." I shove my gym bag into my locker with a few angry punches before grabbing what I need for the first half of the day. "So, are you going to tell me what happened?" Emma finally groans. "Nothing happened," I hiss through my teeth. "He gave me a ride to school." Emma peeks over my shoulder and shrinks down. "Then why is he charging this way with an angry look on his face," she whispers. I don't bother to look back. I have a class to get to and I won't let anyone let me be late. Slamming the door of my locker shut, I walk off in the other direction. I quickly grab Emma by the arm and drag her along with me. Everyone is moving out of my way and whispering as we walk by. The scent of sandalwood is thick in the air behind me, and I know Kyle is right behind me. Emma is having a hard time keeping up with my pace and tripping over her feet. I don't let that slow me down. I can see the end in sight: my classroom at the end of the hall. I slow my pace as I approach the classroom and let go of Emma's arm. She rubs her skin painfully as she takes her seat in the class. I am about to step inside the classroom when someone grabs my arm and yanks me backward. I press my lips into a hard line and look back. It is Kyle. "I need to get to class," I whisper, trying not to draw any more attention to myself. "You can be a few minutes late," Kyle informs me. He waves to my teacher and drags me away. I gasp in protest. "I have never been late to a class in my life." "There is a first time for everything," Kyle says as he drags me down the emptying hallway. Teachers and students alike see him dragging me away, but no one says anything to him. No one would dare to defy the future Alpha of the Twilight Pack. I bet I could scream for my life, and no one would come to my rescue. He rounds the corner, pushes open the door to the boys bathroom, and gestures for me to go inside. I step back and look at him like he is insane. "I am not going in there." Kyle groans in frustration and tugs me inside. "It is empty," he tells me as he flicks the lock. Looking around the boys bathroom, I wrinkle my nose in disgust. It smells like a sweaty sock in here. Why do boys have to be so gross? Kyle closes the distance between us, and I begin to panic. The room feels too small. I begin to fan my face with my hand. "Is it hot in here?" My eyes are drawn to Kyle's lips as he chews on his bottom one. "There is something hot in here," he chuckles lightly. "Shut up, Kyle," I respond, pinching my nose's bridge. "Just let me go to class." "Not until we talk first," he protests. My eyebrows furrow together, and I purse my lips. "What could you possibly want to talk to me about?" He steps closer to me, and I step back, but I find myself pressed against a sink. I grip the edge of the sink and keep my eyes on Kyle's. He reaches out and brushes a piece of hair out of my face. As his fingers graze across my skin, I close my eyes and hold my breath. Kyle tucks the hair behind my ear and cups the side of my face for a moment. I find myself leaning into his touch before I realize what I am doing. My eyes fly open, and I pull his hand away from my face. "Next week is the Annual Charity Ball," Kyle explains. "I was hoping we could go together." "We always go together," I laugh nervously. "Me, you, and Zach." Kyle swallows hard. "I think your brother is planning on taking a date this year." I snort with laughter. "Which of his many admirers is he planning on taking?" Kyle grumbles, "You are missing the point." I stop laughing and study Kyle's face. He is wearing a pretty dramatic scowl. "Did you mean like a date?" I ask. "You are like my brother." I instantly regret my words. Kyle's jaw is clenched tight and his eyes are narrowed. If I could crawl down the sink drain from embarrassment, I would. Kyle sighs loudly. "You should get back to class." He doesn't have to tell me twice. I grab my things and race for the bathroom door, but I forget that it is locked and struggle to open it. Kyle reaches across me, unlocking the door, but not before running his fingers across my stomach. The weird feeling stirs in my stomach again, and I know I have to get out of here. Ripping the door open, I flee through the hallways until I am back in first period. I inhale deeply and realize that Kyle's scent is all over me. When I open the door, everyone is looking at me. The teacher doesn't mention my tardiness, just gestures to my seat, but that doesn't stop everyone from talking about it. "She left with the Alpha's son," I hear someone whisper. By the time I am situated, my face is bright red with embarrassment. I look to my right, and Emma is practically bursting with excitement. "What happened?" She mouths. "Nothing," I mutter. I am looking at the assignment on my laptop screen when a piece of paper lands on my keyboard. Frustration flows through me. "What did he want?" Is written on the paper. "To ask me to the Charity Ball," I write back before sliding it onto Emma's desk. Emma squeals loudly, and everyone looks up from their work. "What did you say?" She asks loudly, forgetting we are in the middle of class. "No," I respond angrily.
