Chapter 8 The Lees Will Not Hold Back!

While the others were outside, the four elders of both powerful families were at the lanai near the swimming pool drinking tea and chatting together. “Chen, we know you are worried of the welfare of your precious granddaughter”, Old Master Hu said with a serious look. “She is your eldest granddaughter and the Lees dote on her a lot”, he continued. “Yao, you seemed to forget the other family caring for her. The Roberts are as equal as the Greys. And we both know that if something bad happened to her, the Lees and the Roberts won’t hold back!” Old Master Chen Lee looked at Old Master Yao Hu with firm eyes. “You invited us here and we came with respect and reverence but your grandson, he was not just late but he even brought his girlfriend with him”, Old Madam Mei Lin couldn’t hold her disappointment anymore. “Ah well! Vincent is still just a kid at heart, you know. Even if he is already twenty eight, he still acts impulsively sometimes”, Old Madam Anna Lei responded. She still talked with grace for the sake of the Hu family but deep inside she despised the Lees a lot. Especially Old Madam Mei Lin, Chen’s wife whom she had grown a hidden grudge since they were young. During their younger years Mei Lin and Anna Lei were said to be the campus belles and the city’s most beautiful women. They were seldom compared to each other by the people with their wits and talents, physical features, and family background. But most of the time Old Madam Mei Lin surpassed Old Madam Anna Lei to any level. She was not just beautiful but also kindhearted which really won the people’s hearts. Old Madam Anna Lei was an only child from a prestigious family. Since she graduated from the university, she didn’t work. She had a high profile status of a socialite. Old Madam Mei Lin was different. She always was a low key person. “I remember the bet was made by you”, Old Master Yao Hu claimed. “I don’t deny that. Also, we both know the reason of this wedding. We’re both businessmen after all. But I’m already an old ghost. I just want to enjoy my life now with my wife”, Old Master Chen Lee explained. “So, you’re saying that you give up making the decisions in the Lee Clan?” The patriarch in Hu clan asked as he wrinkled his forehead. “I do. I give my eldest grandson the full authority to take care of the Lees and to protect his brothers and sisters”, Old Master Chen said with full trust and satisfaction. He knew that his eldest grandson, Thomas Lee could take control of the Lee family and their businesses. Also, his siblings always looked up to him. “Why didn’t you choose your eldest son to take over your company?” Old Madam Anna Lei asked. The Hus and the powerful families in Brent City were wondering why he didn’t let his eldest son, Richard Lee to be his successor. Although the Lees were quiet about this, the little information still spread out in the entire city. “Richard isn’t confident enough to compete with your grandson, Vincent”, Old Master Chen Lee smilingly said while shaking his head. “Ha ha”, Old Master Yao Hu chuckled. He sat straight while looking at the pool. He was always proud of his grandson. Even if Vincent Grey was a stubborn and arrogant person, he always thought he got that attitude from the Hus. “Well then let the kids do our job. I also would like to rest now and just have fun. We’ve been working hard for more than 30 years. We deserve a break”, Old Master Yao Hu added. Old Master Chen Lee nodded. It seemed that these two retired business tycoons had always have a tacit understanding with each other. They looked like enemies in the corporate world but they were really brothers outside the business arena. Old Master Chen and Old Master Yao were classmates way back in high school. They were both popular and what the girls usually chased and pursued. Of course, these two elders were hotties during their younger years. They were both basketball players and really good at martial arts. They liked to compete with each other that’s why when these two were drunk, they made that bet that made their grandchildren sacrifice their own happiness. “There’s only one thing I would like to add to our agreement”, Old Master Yao Hu said. “As long as it doesn’t affect our morals, we agree to it”, Old Master Chen Lee replied. “Very well, I’d like the two children to give us a great grandchild by the end of this year”, Old Master Hu announced. The three elders were shocked. They couldn’t say anything. Until Old Master Chen Lee looked at Old Master Yao Hu sternly. He saw something in his eyes. “I’m not in the position to decide on that but we have to ask the kids first. If Marielle agrees then the Lees agree”, he told them. “Chen, I---“ Old Madam Mei Lin was reluctant but Old Master Chen Lee held her hands saying everything will be fine. Old Master Lee knew Old Master Hu's personality. He asked for a life from Vincent and Marielle. This was a huge thing for Old Master Hu which only meant he accepted Marielle to be his granddaughter-in-law not because of fame and power but because he was satisfied with the upbringing of the girl. Old Master Chen then knew for as long as Old Master Yao was around, Marielle would be fine in Hu and Grey Clan. If everything would turn out just fine, the relationship between the Lees and the Hus would improve. But if things would go in a different path, a battle in the corporate world both in China and overseas might occur.
