Chapter 8 : Warning from the Village Chief!
Seeing everyone leave, Jiang Hui finally ran out of the house and exclaimed, "Beige, could it be that our family is really blessed by immortals?"
Beige was amused by her words and laughed, "Yes, of course! I am the immortal who protects our family!"
Jiang Hui slapped Beige on the back of his head and scolded, "You little rascal, what nonsense are you talking about? Be careful not to anger the gods."
Beige didn't argue and handed her the bag in his hand, saying, "Mom, I bought two cell phones, one for each of us, for easier communication in the future."
Jiang Hui knew it was her son's filial piety and scolded him for spending money recklessly, but she still accepted the phone, feeling extremely happy.
At noon.
After a casual lunch, the village chief, Tang Danian, came to visit.
"Oh, what wind blew the village chief to our house?" Beige teased.
Tang Danian had a serious face and said, "Beige, weren't you sentenced to life imprisonment? Why are you back now? Did you escape?"
Beige rolled his eyes at his words and took out his release certificate, waving it in front of him, saying, "Village chief, I made mistakes in the past, but I have been rehabilitated and started a new life."
"You see, this is the evidence of my new life. Don't use your dog eyes to judge me."
Tang Danian was instantly enraged by Beige's words and shouted, "How dare you! Beige, who are you cursing?"
Beige shrugged indifferently and said, "Who knows who I'm cursing."
"Village chief, what exactly are you here for?"
Tang Danian's face turned even darker, and he said in a cold voice, "Beige, what happened to my son this morning? Don't talk to me about those supernatural things, I, Tang Danian, don't believe in them."
Beige smiled and said, "Since the village chief doesn't believe, why don't you give it a try?"
"You..." Tang Danian was speechless for a moment. After a pause, he said, "I won't discuss this matter with you for now. I want to ask you, did anyone see you return to the village yesterday, and then He Hongguang and Li Erniu died? Do you have anything to do with it?"
Beige's face turned cold when he heard He Hongguang and Li Erniu being mentioned. He reached out his hand and said coldly, "Where's the evidence? Without evidence, you're just slandering!"
"I did return to the village yesterday, but just because people died doesn't mean it's my fault! Village chief, you know very well who He Hongguang and Li Erniu were."
After hearing this, Tang Danian stared at Beige for a long time before speaking, "Beige, I will investigate this matter thoroughly. If I find out it was you, I guarantee that you won't see the sun for the rest of your life."
Beige sneered, "Village chief, you really have a high and mighty attitude! Feel free to investigate, but let me remind you, I'm not the pushover I used to be. You better be cautious in your actions."
"Otherwise, you'll bear the consequences!"
Tang Danian glanced at the old house behind Beige, left a harsh word, and turned to leave.
After Tang Danian had gone far, Jiang Hui came out of the house with a worried expression and asked, "Beige, what did the village chief come for? He's not here to hold you responsible, is he?"
Beige reassured her, "Mom, don't worry, the village chief just came to ask some questions. Once we explain everything, he'll leave."
"Oh, I see!" Jiang Hui watched Tang Danian's figure disappear into the distance and said, "That Tang guy is not a good person. You have to be careful."
Beige smiled and nodded. He didn't care about Tang Danian and the others at all. He turned around and brought a ladder from the backyard.
After three years, the old house had deteriorated in many places, with leaks everywhere. He planned to renovate the roof while he had the time.
He worked until evening, sitting on the roof and watching the sunset in the distance, feeling a bit sentimental.
Suddenly, he saw Tang Xiaohu and a group of people approaching again, accompanied by a Taoist priest in a gray robe.
Beige quickly jumped off the roof and stood at the entrance of the courtyard, looking at Tang Xiaohu and the others, saying, "Tang Xiaohu, have you forgotten the pain after the wound healed? Are you here to find trouble again?"
When Tang Xiaohu saw Beige and remembered what happened in the morning, he was startled. He glanced at the Taoist priest beside him and said defiantly, "Beige, don't get too cocky. Although I don't know what tricks you played, I brought Master Wu the immortal here."
"I bet you won't be so arrogant when you see what happens next!"
The Taoist priest, upon hearing Tang Xiaohu mention his name, quickly bowed with one hand and said, "Blessings from the Infinite Heavenly Lord!"
"Beige, I observed dark clouds gathering above your old house, indicating the presence of evil spirits."
"The old Taoist is here out of compassion, to resolve the disaster in your house."
Beige rolled his eyes at his nonsense and sneered, "I didn't blame you for taking money to do your job, so why do you need to find such a pretentious excuse for yourself?"
"Tang Xiaohu paid you how much? I'll pay you double if you help me get rid of this troublemaker."
Tang Xiaohu's face turned pale when he heard this and pointed at Beige, saying, "Beige, you're talking nonsense! You're the troublemaker!"
"Master Wu, don't waste time talking to him. Get rid of that thing in his house, and then we can take action."
The Taoist priest ignored Beige and began chanting in a corner of the wall.
Beige stood by with his arms crossed, watching with great interest.
After a while, the Taoist priest took out a paper talisman from his pocket, pasted it on the courtyard wall, wiped the sweat off his forehead, and said, "Tang, it's done. I have subdued the evil spirit."
Tang Xiaohu's face lit up at his words, and he waved his hand, saying, "Everyone, let's tear down the courtyard wall together."
However, before he could finish his sentence, Yang Ling's silver needle had already been thrown.
The next moment, Tang Xiaohu fell to the ground again, trembling uncontrollably. This time, he was not foaming at the mouth, but coughing up blood!
"Oh my god!"
The thugs next to him were frightened by this scene and immediately dropped their tools and ran away.
The Taoist priest beside him was also shocked and didn't know what to do for a moment.
At this moment, Beige spoke up, laughing, "See, it's even worse this time."
"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and take him to the hospital. If Tang Xiaohu dies here, it has nothing to do with me!"
Upon hearing this, everyone carried Tang Xiaohu and left dejectedly, leaving behind the tools scattered on the ground.
Beige shook his head and turned back into the courtyard.
As night fell, after having dinner, Beige continued to treat his mother with silver needles. After she fell asleep, he left the room.
He sat alone under the eaves on a chair, took out his phone, logged into WeChat, and opened a familiar profile picture, staring at the chat box in silence.
From the profile picture, the other person was a beautiful woman, dressed in a fashionable manner.
After hesitating for a long time, Beige finally sent a message.
"Susan, it's Beige."
After sending the message, Beige immediately closed WeChat, gripping his phone nervously, feeling both scared and hopeful.
After a while, he finally opened WeChat again, only to be disappointed.
Susan was Beige's high school classmate and his girlfriend. They were both top students throughout high school and were seen as the perfect couple by their classmates.
Afterwards, they both attended the same university and agreed to get married after graduation.
But three years ago, a disaster struck out of nowhere, sending Beige into hell for a full three years.
During this time, he cut off all contact with Susan.
"It's been three years. I guess you've forgotten about me, right?"
Beige chuckled at himself and muttered softly.
