Chapter 2 I Object
Jonathan stared at her phone, his face gloomy.
She was standing not far away when she took the picture. She must have seen me reject that prostitute. Clearly, she's trying to use this picture to slander me.
Just as Jonathan suspected, Ysobel indeed wanted to frame him.
From the day Jonathan married into the Smith family, Ysobel had never once looked at Jonathan with respect.
After all, Josephine was the young lady of the Smith family.
Countless young talents and wealthy heirs had pursued her, yet she had chosen Jonathan, a penniless man burdened with debt.
Ysobel had been constantly trying to find ways to separate Jonathan from Josephine.
She had thought that Jonathan was dead and Josephine was finally free. But unexpectedly, Jonathan, who had been dead for three years, had returned to Jadeborough and was set to be with Josephine again. This was something Ysobel could not tolerate.
“Jonathan, how desperate are you? You just got back and you're already picking up chicks on the side of the road? You could go ahead and search, but why search for such junk? I suppose she doesn't even cost a hundred, right? Jonathan, you're truly disgusting! I advise you to back off immediately. Stop bothering Josephine!”
“I'm just passing by. I'm not her customer!” Upon hearing Ysobel's increasingly unpleasant remarks, Jonathan couldn't help but frown.
He didn't care if Ysobel slandered him.
He simply didn't want Josephine to have any misunderstandings about him.
“You can't even admit to what you've done, Jonathan. How is it that after three years, you're still such a coward?” Ysobel completely ignored Jonathan's explanation. “Josephine must have been blind to have fallen for you back then! I will definitely tell Josephine about this. I will make sure she divorces you!”
As soon as she said that, she turned and walked away in her high heels.
Jonathan suddenly grabbed her arm, his voice as cold as ice as he demanded, “Where is Josephine? Take me to see her!”
“See her? You think you're worthy?” Ysobel sneered. “You want to know where Josephine is, don't you? Fine, I'll tell you. She's at the Phoenix International Hotel, on a date with Mr. Langford! Do you know Mr. Langford? He's the only son of the Chairman of Langford Group, Alvin Langford. His assets are worth several hundred million! He pursued Josephine for a full three years, and Josephine is just about to divorce you and marry him!”
“What did you say? Josephine wants to marry someone else?” Jonathan's face turned cold.
After three years of absence, he had just returned, only to find out that Josephine was actually about to marry someone else.
“You heard that right. Josephine has been waiting for you for three whole years. Isn't that kind enough of her? Do you really expect her to live as a widow for the rest of her life just for you?”
“I want to see her!” Jonathan had no patience for idle chatter with her.
He just wanted to see Josephine as soon as possible.
“Why?” Ysobel snorted. “To keep pestering her? To cling on to her desperately? Have you no shame, Jonathan?”
Jonathan stared into Ysobel's eyes, his face expressionless. “I said, I want to see her!”
Upon seeing his calm gaze, Ysobel couldn't help but shudder. She felt as if she was being stared at by a fierce beast, as if every cell in her body was warning her of danger.
Ysobel took a step back in fear, unable to comprehend why she was scared of Jonathan, who everyone else saw as a good-for-nothing.
She wanted to reject him to show her support for Josephine, but when the words reached her lips, she just couldn't say them.
She had no choice but to nod reluctantly.
She had a premonition that if she truly rejected him, something terrible might happen.
Ysobel hailed a taxi, and without looking back, she commanded, “Get in!”
She then said to the driver, “Phoenix International Hotel, please!”
The hall at the Phoenix International Hotel was decorated in a warm and romantic manner.
Men and women, dressed impeccably, turned their gazes toward the most eye-catching couple seated at the table at the center.
Josephine, dressed in an exquisite gown and adorned with delicate makeup, seemed somewhat distracted at the moment.
“Josephine, as long as you marry me, your family's crisis will naturally be resolved!” Alvin looked at her and pulled out the diamond ring he had prepared in advance. “Marry me, and you'll become part of the Langford family. Who would dare to bully you in Jadeborough then? Who would dare to bully the your family?”
Everyone in the room, as rehearsed, chanted in unison, “Marry him! Marry him! Marry him!”
“Mr. Langford, this...” Josephine looked at the huge diamond ring in front of her, seeming somewhat at a loss.
“I object!”
Before Josephine could even speak, the door of the restaurant was kicked open with a bang.
