Geoffrey listened to Vance's domineering words and felt a twinge of displeasure. However, thinking about Prudence's suffering today—the indignity of having Doug send a eunuch to humiliate her—he couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt. She was elderly and should not be subjected to such insults.
