Chapter 6 Don't Lower Yourself
"She's just being childish, don't stoop to her level."
"Let's just forget the incident where you hit Violet."
Amanda smirked disdainfully, her head lowered, then looked up and smiled at William, "Dad, my retaliating was actually for her own good. Look, I now belong to Matthew, and if she hits me and I show up at the Grant family with a bruise, isn't that indirectly striking Matthew's face?"
She too could play the role of the good person.
No sooner had Amanda finished speaking than Violet responded disdainfully, "As if Matthew would stand up for you! He just sees you as a plaything!"
Whether or not she was a plaything, Amanda was aware, as were the members of the Sullivan family.
Amanda was said to be married to Matthew, but no wedding had been held, and no marriage certificate was issued; she was sent directly to Matthew's bed by the Sullivan family.
The day after Matthew had been with her, he left for a business trip to Yotania and had not visited the Sullivan family since then.
"Hmm." Amanda picked up on Violet's remark, her nonchalant "hmm" causing Violet to pause.
To actually admit to being a plaything, Amanda really was disgraceful!
"Enough," William interjected timely, signaling Amanda to sit down, "Amanda, I called you back because there's something I need to discuss with you."
Amanda sat opposite William and boredly started chatting with Cindy on her phone.
"Amanda, don’t forget tonight’s car racing event!"
"Hmm! I'll be there on time."
After sending the text, Amanda looked up at William, who had already finished speaking. But what had he said?
"Amanda!" Seeing Amanda's puzzled look, William spoke irritably.
"Dad, what did you just say?"
William's expression soured because he needed Amanda's help, he had to repeat what he had just said.
"We're hosting a banquet in a few days, and I need you to bring Mr. Grant from the Grant family."
Bring Matthew to the Sullivan family? William thought too highly of me.
"Dad, I’m just an object to Matthew," Amanda said, looking towards Violet.
That was Violet’s earlier statement, now returned to them.
"Amanda!" William said calmly, "I believe in your capabilities."
When the Grant family had proposed, William, fearing to offend them, had hastily agreed. Most importantly, the Sullivan Corp was launching a project that could greatly benefit from the involvement of the Grant family.
But since Amanda had been with the Grant family, William hadn’t even seen Matthew's face, let alone discussed the project.
"Dad, you’re really putting me in a tough spot." Amanda replied, truly feeling cornered. To this day, sTaylord Matthew had spoken no more than ten sentences.
"Dear!"
"Hmm!"
"I'll behave!"
"Amanda!" Seeing Amanda trying to dodge the issue, William called out irritably, his voice cooling, "You must bring Mr. Grant back here!"
If she couldn’t bring him back, what would happen to his project? If the project failed to launch, he’d risk losing half of Sullivan Corp. Thus, Amanda had no choice but to agree to bring Matthew back to the Sullivan family.
She could only agree to what William was asking. She had been coerced into marrying Matthew in place of Violet; what else couldn’t she be coerced into?
"Dad, I’m going to check on my sister!" Amanda stood up, cautiously eyeing William.
"Hmm." William nodded, only because Amanda had agreed to his request.
Grace, recalling another matter, looked towards William to remind him, "Dear."
