"Come on, Isabel. You’re making this harder than it needs to be," Jaxon says, his voice teasing but there’s an edge of impatience underneath. I look up from my plate, meeting his eyes across the table in the dimly lit corner of a restaurant. His dark hair is mussed, as it usually is, and there's that familiar intensity in his gaze, like he's staring right through me. I can't tell if he's frustrated with me or just frustrated with himself. Maybe both.
