Rain pelted the shattered windows of the Mercer estate. The ballroom reeked of gunpowder, sweat, and blood. Gideon lay on the cold marble floor, breath hitching, his once-pristine silk shirt soaked crimson around his ribs. Silas towered over him, shirt torn at the collar, arms streaked with bruises, chest heaving. His eyes, dark, storming, burned with betrayal and rage.
“You always thought you were untouchable,” Silas murmured, cocking the gun and pressing the muzzle to Gideon’s forehead. “This is your last chance. Tell me where you hid her.”
