Chapter 1 Poisoning
The chilly prison was filled with the fishy smell of blood.
“Why...”
Tang Muyue was writhing in pain on the floor. She seemed exceptionally skinny in her oversized inmate shirt.
Cough--
She coughed intensely and was vomiting blood.
The pain was unbearable, as if a thousand knives were churning inside her stomach, causing her to almost pass out.
The lethal poison had triggered horrible effects.
“Why… why do you treat me like this?”
Tang Muyue raised her head, her eyes filled with hatred as she glared at the inmate in front of her.
“Haha, are you asking why I poisoned your food?”
The inmate laughed cruelly; she showed much disdain - with a trace of sympathy towards the woman kneeling on the ground. “That’s because I was paid by someone to kill you! Blame it on your sole existence, because you were standing in the way of her happiness!”
“Who…” Tang Muyue tried to keep herself conscious as she held herself together by pressing her knees against her stomach.
“Fine, since you’re dying, I might as well let you in on the truth. Weren’t you getting married to Young Master Li? That’s why! She wanted you to vanish from this world! Once you are not around, they can be together…”
The intense pain spread throughout her body, thoroughly devouring her sanity.
At that moment, a clear image flashed across her mind.
It is that damned woman, Song Jingyuan!
I would never have expected her to do something so heinous, so depraved!
Tang Muyue’s eyes welled up as she groaned in excruciating pain while feeling remorse and regret.
Song Jingyuan, who once used to be Tang Muyue’s best friend, was also the very woman who plotted her demise! Bit by bit she calculated her steps; her actions eventually brought Tang Muyue into jail. It was also because of Song Jingyuan that Tang Muyue had lost the best man she could ever ask for in this world!
That man, as handsome as a god, used to spoil Tang Muyue rotten. But because of Song Jingyuan’s slander, Tang Muyue did all she could to make him lose interest in her. She ended up pushing him away.
It was only at that moment did Tang Muyue realize she had been completely fooled by Song Jingyuan. Not only did she become the world’s most pitiful clown, but she also landed in prison. At the present moment, she was even struggling just to survive.
What else could she do even if she regretted her actions? She no longer deserved him…
Barf--
Another mouthful of blood gushed out.
At the center of the floor lay Tang Muyue in a pool of her own crimson blood. Tears rolled in her eyes as she lost her gaze into the room filled with eternal darkness. The acute pain in her abdomen no longer seemed so unbearable; she was feeling remorse so deep that even death could not erase.
The inmate let out a long sigh as she saw the state Tang Muyue was in. She moved forward and shut Tang Muyue’s eyes with empathy. That stare - full of hatred and regret - had ceased to exist, and what remained was a lifelessly gorgeous face.
The inmate let out another sigh before she turned around and left.
Only the festering smell of blood lingered in the room.
——
Hatred and regret engulfed Tang Muyue from head to toe.
Her body shook intensely, and she let out a groan uncontrollably.
She was in dire straits. Before she could even respond to the situation, the shock her body was experiencing had knocked her out of her senses again.
The deep, sensual voice of the man and the hurt she was feeling at that moment were all too familiar, leaving her in a trance.
Before she could give it another thought, she was conquered by a force as strong as an invading storm.
Sometime later.
Tang Muyue struggled to open her eyes. When she finally managed to do so, she was immediately shocked by the scene before her!
The hotel, sparkling clean albeit monotonously decorated, was exactly the same as that night seven years ago!
She could not believe what she saw as she turned around --
The outstanding features on that familiar face. Those skinny lips, bitten with scabs. The man, soundly sleeping with a faint smile.
Tang Muyue covered her mouth as she tried to hold back her sobs.
Li Xuanxiao was there, on the bed right in front of her!
She was brought back to seven years ago, to the night when they became engaged and were intimate for the first time!
It was a night etched deep in her mind. It was not only because of how intense it was, but also because she had tried to refuse him with all her might: she had been forced by her family into marrying Li Xuanxiao.
Rumors alleged that Li Xuanxiao had a strong presence in both the upper class and underworld societies, and that he was violent and abusive. That was why she was terrified and went against the idea of having the two families become one. She even felt that her dad and stepmother were sacrificing her for whatever hidden agenda they had.
That night she refused to be touched by this man. She even blurted that she had a crush on Gu Chenxuan and wanted to save everything of hers for him…
Her memories were vivid. Because of her words, she had angered Li Xuanxiao and he forced himself on her.
After that night, she became more convinced that the heir of the Li family was just as terrifying as rumors had claimed him to be…
It wasn’t until much later that she realized the man she perceived to be cruel had actually given her all the warmth she could ever ask for in this world. Yet, she had destroyed everything she possessed!
She regretted it.
But now… she was brought back to life!
Tang Muyue choked in happiness, her tears rolling down uncontrollably as she touched the scab on the man’s lip with her shivering fingers.
Since God had brought her back to life, she vowed to reclaim everything that had belonged to her. Including this man in front of her!
She would not do anything foolish again, including falling into the traps of Song Jingyuan whom had brought death upon her.
Tang Muyue brought herself to the man’s bedside and planted a shaky kiss on his lips.
Knock knock -
Someone was knocking rapidly at the door.
Tang Muyue was stunned. She stared at the source of the noise with her stiff body.
If she recalled correctly, it was Song Jingyuan outside the door. She had come.
