Chapter 5 Never Will I Disappoint Him Again
The next afternoon.
Tang Muyue entered the walk-in closet, trying to pick a suitable dress for the classmates’ gathering.
She was stunned the moment she opened the door to the walk-in closet. It seemed to be ordinary on the outside, but they housed a gamut of clothing. They came in different styles, patterns and colors. Literally, any type of clothes could be found within.
The entire walk-in closet was filled with personalized luxury items bought in from all over the world. All designer’s items had been prepared for her under the order of Li Xuanxiao. It was a shame she had never bothered to try them on in her past life.
She also now realized that all those clothes came in designs and sizes that matched her perfectly. They were, in fact, her favourite styles.
There was a knock on the door. It was Aunt Li coming in to serve afternoon tea.
She put down the tea set and saw Tang Muyue in the middle of dress-picking. Even though Aunt Li was surprised, she wore a kind smile on her face. She could feel Tang Muyue changing as well.
Tang Muyue saw Aunt Li walking in and took the opportunity to ask her, “Aunt Li, did Li Xuanxiao order people to send over all these clothes?”
Aunt Li laughed genuinely. She had always enjoyed the presence of this young lady in front of her, and it was rare to see Tang Muyue having a great day. She replied honestly, “Yes, all these are in fact designs handpicked by Young Master. He doesn’t want you to know and prohibited me from telling you. Most probably he was afraid that you might not like them. Haha, I’m sure you could feel the effort that Young Master had put in.”
Tang Muyue closed her eyes. Aunt Li had verbalized her exact thoughts.
She must have been insane previously to have taken his kindness for granted, and to have dismissed his sincerity as deception. She eventually pushed away someone who had loved her wholeheartedly.
Such a great man by my side. How could I have missed it?
Thankfully, she was brought back to life once again, and she wouldn’t miss it anymore. In this life, she would not let him down.
After some consideration, Tang Muyue settled on an elegant, pale hued tulle dress. She tried it on and asked Aunt Li, “What do you think? Do I look nice in this?”
Aunt Li said, “Any dress would look great on you, Young Mistress. That’s because you are blessed with great features, especially your looks.”
Tang Muyue was embarrassed by the compliment. “Stop making fun of me, Aunt Li.”
Aunt Li walked further into the closet area and opened another wardrobe, “Young Mistress, here are some high heels, bags, and accessories that go along with the dress. Pick whatever you want.”
As she was introducing the various luxury items, she took out a few jewellery boxes.
Tang Muyue felt warmth in her heart as she expressed her heartfelt gratitude, “Thank you, Aunt Li.”
Aunt Li was just as glad and she suggested with a grin, “If only Young Master were here to see you put on what he had prepared for you, he must be happy as well.”
Tang Muyue wore the dress. She observed herself carefully in front of the mirror before handing her phone over to Aunt Li and making a request, “Aunt Li, please help to take a photo of me in this dress.”
In front of the camera, Tang Muyue smiled happily and playfully. Her bright and attractive eyes shone like a pair of diamonds, and anyone who saw her would easily lose themselves in her stunning smile.
After the photo was taken, Tang Muyue sent it over to Li Xuanxiao, followed by the text: Do I look good?
There was no reply for some time. She didn’t mind, though, as she thought he was most probably busy at the moment.
While she was putting on her makeup, Song Jingyuan called again.
“Muyue, are you getting ready? It’s just a simple gathering among friends. Just a simple dress will do. Even casual clothes are fine. I’m just calling to remind you that it’s starting soon, so make sure you get there in time.”
Tang Muyue listened to what Song Jingyuan had to say and hung up right after she finished her sentence.
She found it funny from the moment she picked up the call. In her past life Song Jingyuan had said something similar, but then she appeared all dolled up at the scene, stealing all the attention that day. Tang Muyue was just standing by her side, shamed by what she wore in comparison.
Knowing what was awaiting her, how could she let Song Jingyuan have things her way?
Before she left for the gathering, Tang Muyue went into Li Xuanxiao’s garage and picked a flashy Porsche as her ride.
She drove all the way to the exclusive hotel where the gathering was held.
Second floor. Private lounge.
As Tang Muyue walked in, she could feel that everyone had their attention on her. They were all stunned by how gorgeous she looked.
Her classmates, however, had failed to recognize her at first sight. They were guessing who she was.
Tang Muyue smiled elegantly before she apologized, “I’m sorry I’m late.”
“It’s you, Tang Muyue. You’re so pretty tonight!” Someone shouted from the crowd, stunned.
Everyone was shocked. They had always acknowledged that Tang Muyue had an outstanding appearance, but they had never seen her dressed up in such a manner before. In fact, back in the days, she was considered an “alternative beauty” because she never bothered to doll up and had always worn odd clothing. It was beyond everyone’s expectation that she could be so stunning once properly dressed.
Her light-purple tulle dress gave the illusion that she was shrouded in mist; it complemented and even accentuated her figures. The low-cut, V-neck dress brought people’s attention to her neckline, which showed off her fair and tender skin. Her outfit had perfectly highlighted her shapely chest, delicate waist and slender gams. In short, she had stunned everyone present.
Her already charming features became even more attractive with makeup. Be it a faint smile or a simple gesture, she looked especially regal.
Hidden among the admiring gazes was a stare full of jealousy.
Song Jingyuan gulped down a mouthful of wine. She was initially enjoying compliments from others, having worn the most luxurious dress she had in her closet. It was beyond her expectation that Tang Muyue would outshine her and steal her limelight.
The lounge was full of admiration for Tang Muyue. Even Song Jingyuan’s few friends, who had originally been by her side, were now drawn to Tang Muyue.
“Muyue, you’re so gorgeous today. This piece suits you so well. It must have been expensive, isn’t it?”
“That’s right, Muyue, do you mind if I touch it?”
“Oh wow, the fabric feels so comfortable. It looks great as well…”
“Muyue, if only you had dressed properly in the past as you have tonight, you would have gained loads of fans back then!”
Tang Muyue returned their praises with a smile and a nod. She took a glass of champagne and had a sip.
She recalled what she had worn to this exact same venue in her past life. It’s funny; I must have lost my mind or been hit by a truck in the face to have trusted Song Jingyuan.
It was Song Jingyuan who had told her that Gu Chenxuan didn’t like “mainstream” things, and that was why she had dressed accordingly. Back then she did feel that Gu Chenxuan’s taste was too peculiar to be interested in women dressed in heavy metal style.
Now she realized they were all lies.
Tang Muyue raised her head once again, and saw Gu Chenxuan across the hall. He couldn’t help but peek at her occasionally, failing to hold back the amazement in his eyes.
Song Jingyuan finally came up to her. She knitted her brows slightly and asked, “Why are you wearing those? Don’t you think it’s a little over?”
Tang Muyue smirked and asked her in return, “Aren’t you the one who told me to dress casually? This is so much more casual compared to that heavy metal stuff. Gosh, they are just so troublesome to put on…”
Song Jingyuan smiled awkwardly before replying, “No, I don’t mean that, Muyue. You look just fine. I have been waiting for you for a while now. I have reserved a seat for you. Quick, follow me.”
As Tang Muyue looked across the lounge, she saw one reserved seat. It was right beside Gu Chenxuan.
