I could tell that my mate was surprised to see that I was awake as she turned and began to automatically make her way back to bed. I had heard everything between her and her friend, listening quietly, trying not to make any noise that would give me away. As she stilled, her eyes widening, I grabbed the pad and pen that was on the bedside table, put there expressly for me. I began to scribble, eyeing her with anxiety. I knew things weren’t going well for her and she seemed to be under a lot of stress. Still, I had to know. I had to get my answers, and this was the only way I knew how.
