Kael reached the Blackwood border by nightfall, his wolf form prowling just beyond the line that divided their territories. He hadn’t told anyone where he was going—least of all Dax—but the pull inside him had become unbearable. Every hour that passed without seeing her, every breath filled with her scent on the wind, drove him closer to madness. The moon hung heavy above the trees, casting silver light through the canopy. Kael shifted back to human form behind a thicket, muscles coiled with tension. His heart thundered as he approached the border marker, where the scent of Blackwood wolves grew stronger.
