At the bottom of the stairs, we passed a couple of men dressed in business suits. They stared at me as I walked past, and I could tell they were discussing me in loud voices. I wished I could hear what they were saying, but I didn't dare look back. Instead, I pretended not to notice and hurried past them. The lobby was larger than I thought it would be, and it reminded me of a hotel in Las Vegas. The ceiling was decorated with a huge chandelier, and a marble staircase led to the second floor. A black piano sat against the wall near the front desk, and a group of young people were gathered around it playing music. One of them was holding a microphone, and he had a headset on his head. An older man wearing a black suit stood nearby, watching the performance while sipping on a drink and smoking a cigarette.
