Chapter 16 His Destined Guide
Without hesitation, Felix ran to the iron door and started banging on it.
"Hey! Senior! You awake?"
The old man's voice grumbled from the other side. "Are you crazy, kid? What the hell are you yelling about? You wanna die?"
Felix quickly responded, "No, no, don't kill me! If you do, who'll keep you company?"
Then he added, "Senior, can you teach me how to cultivate?"
"You're Dragon's apprentice, and you're asking me for help? Didn't Dragon teach you anything?"
"Well... uh... I lost my memories, remember?"
The old man went quiet for a moment, and Felix thought the conversation was over. But just when he was about to give up, the old man spoke again.
"Kid, I can teach you the Ultimate Cultivation Technique... but you gotta do something for me first."
"What is it?" Felix asked eagerly.
He knew it! Every protagonist in those stories always stumbled upon some big opportunity after falling off a cliff or landing in prison.
The heavens had already paved the way for him!
This old man, locked up for over two hundred years, was clearly his destined guide!
The old man spoke slowly, "I can teach you the true methods. I could even pass down everything I've learned in my lifetime. But you must promise not to tell anyone, not even your master, Dragon. No one can know I exist."
"That's it? Senior, come on, I'm tough and smart—you can make this a bit harder if you want!"
"I only have this one condition. If you agree, I'll teach you."
"Alright, but remember—you set the bar low, not me. Don't blame me later!" Felix grinned. "I agree."
He accepted without hesitation. Honestly, he'd half-expected the old man to ask for some crazy favor, like selling his soul or something. But the request turned out to be way easier than he thought.
To be honest, even if the old man hadn't made that condition, there was no way Felix would've gone around blabbing.
"Swear it," the old man demanded.
He clearly didn't trust Felix entirely. After all, they'd known each other for a few years, spending about seven or eight months together across multiple stints in the stone prison. The old man knew Felix was the kind of kid who liked to boast and show off. He was worried Felix might spill everything the moment he got out.
Felix immediately raised his hand. "I, Felix, swear to the heavens: If I ever tell anyone about the techniques you teach me, may I suffer lifelong impotence, be half-paralyzed, grow sores on my head, and have pus oozing from my feet..."
"That's enough! What kind of disgusting oath is that? Just swear normally, for heaven's sake!"
And just like that, Felix became the old man's unofficial disciple—though technically, it was more like a "no-name, secret apprentice."
The title was a bit of a mouthful, but that's exactly what it was.
Felix thought he'd scored big time, but little did he know, he'd just stepped into some serious trouble.
The old man spoke again, his voice steady and deliberate. "Since you've lost your memories, I'll start from the beginning. The Sky Continent is vast and boundless, home to countless races. A million years ago, the human race began to rise above the others..."
"Senior, can we skip the intro?" Felix interrupted.
"What's the rush? Impatience is the greatest enemy of a cultivator. Rushing things will only lead you to lose control and fall into madness. Just shut up and listen."
Felix had no comeback for that.
Even though he was eager to learn the cultivation techniques of Void Sect, he knew the old man was right. You can't build a skyscraper without laying a solid foundation. There's no shortcut to becoming powerful overnight.
If he didn't learn to control his impulses, cultivation would become dangerous.
So, Felix sighed and decided to sit quietly, letting the old man continue.
"In this world, there are many sects, but the five most powerful paths are Daoism, Demonic Path, Buddhism, Spiritcraft, and Witchcraft. There's a saying: The Dao splits north and south, Buddhism divides east and west, demons fill heaven and earth, spirits dwell in yin and yang, and witches walk the line between black and white. Our Void Sect leads the southern branch of Daoism. The northern branch is headed by the Breeze Sect. The Buddhist leader is Cypress Temple. Together with the Apsaras Sect in the west and the Blossom Sect in the east, these five sects represent the righteous path."
The old man paused for a moment then continued, "On the other side stands the Demonic Path. The Demonic Path is split between the Demon Sect and the Ghost Sect. The Demon Sect consists of the Poison Sect, the Saint Palace, and the Super Sect. The Ghost Sect is made up of the Soul-Controlling Sect, the Death Sect, and the Dark Sect. This balance of power—between the five righteous sects and the six demonic sects—has held ever since the Immortal Hunt War two thousand years ago. For years, the righteous and demonic paths had been locked in a constant battle, both trying to completely defeat each other. Unfortunately, every time they clashed, it ended in a draw, with both sides suffering heavy losses. Our Void Sect was founded over five thousand years ago by the first generation patriarch, Albert…"
The old man spent a long time detailing the history of the Void Sect. Some of the information Felix had already heard from Zara, but most of it was new to him. Clearly, Zara's understanding of Void Sect's history was nowhere near what this old man, who had been imprisoned for over two hundred years, knew.
The old man even knew the names of all the past sect leaders! It seemed like this knowledge was etched into his very blood.
"The principles of the Void Sect originated from the southern Dao, yet it developed its own unique path. Many disciples follow the sword as their way, which is why the Void Sect is also called the Void Sword Sect. Having been established for over five thousand years, Void Sect is one of the oldest sects in the world, boasting countless powerful sword techniques. In summary, they can be classified as one technique, two truths, three formations, four swords, five palms, six legs, and seven body techniques."
"The 'one technique' refers to the Void Technique. This set of cultivation methods is incredibly profound, and when cultivated to the highest level, it can lead to the realm of Mahayana."
"The 'two truths' refer to the Divine Sword True Technique and the Heaven-Slashing True Technique."
"The 'three formations' include the Wind Sword Formation, the Rain Sword Formation, and the Storm Sword Formation."
"The 'four swords' refer to the Basic Sword Technique, the Future Sword Technique, the Heartless Sword Technique, and the Myriad Sword Technique…"
The old man was truly a qualified teacher. He used long, detailed explanations to tell Felix about all the different true methods and sword techniques of the Void Sect.
The Void Sect had thrived for thousands of years thanks to these powerful techniques. Each technique, when mastered to its fullest extent, had the potential to wreak havoc and destruction.
Just when Felix thought the old man would finally teach him the core techniques after introducing all these mystical sword arts, the old man said, "I've been talking for a while now. I'm tired. We'll continue next time."
This left Felix feeling quite disappointed. But he was also a young man bursting with energy. After listening to hours of stories, he felt his head spinning. The old man was so old; he must have been exhausted, too. So Felix pushed down his impatience and decided to wait until tomorrow for more lessons.
In the dim light of the stone prison, Felix lost track of time. The only way he could tell the days were passing was by the meals that Alan brought him each day.
While he was asleep, he heard footsteps. He knew Alan had come to bring him his meal again.
But Alan still didn't open the cell door. Instead, he asked through the bars, "Felix, have you remembered anything yet?"
Felix yawned and shook his head. "Senior Brother Alan, can you stop starting every day by asking if I've remembered anything? Amnesia—do you even know what that means?"
Felix wasn't as overly polite with Alan as he used to be. In this hellish place, he could not only escape his enemies but also learn celestial arts from the old man. He was starting to love it here. If they set him free now, he'd probably resist!
Seeing Felix's attitude, Alan frowned but didn't get angry or say anything else.
Alan took out two cold steamed buns, a plate of pickles, and a small jug of clear water from the food box and squeezed them through the opening at the bottom. Then he picked up the food box and walked over to the opposite cell.
In that cell, there was a plump roasted chicken and a jug of wine.
Felix couldn't help but notice how drastically different the food was between him and the old man.
After Alan left and his footsteps faded away in the corridor, Felix heard the old man's voice in his mind.
