Chapter 71 Seventy One
Soon they were all seated at the table for lunch, and for the first time in a long while, Lila saw a big smile on her mother's face. It was like looking at an alien. It was as if she were trying to punish her for something she must have done. Each time Lila tried to talk to her mom, she found a way to divert the attention back to someone else at the table. She was angry or displeased about something, and she was making sure to make it known to them all at the table. Levi could not understand why on earth a mother could be that cold to her daughter, and for what real reason?
Lila tried her best to act as if nothing her mother did bothered her but in reality she did not like it; maybe if she had gotten married to someone else and had given her mother grandbabies, things would have been different; maybe she would have smiled widely at her like she did with Elizabeth and Victoria. Maybe she would say good things about her, but not only that, she was quite disappointed about a lot of things. Lila could no longer stomach it, and with the way things were at the table, she knew that if she slipped away, no one would even notice that she was gone.
