Chapter 9 Kicking Brainless Ex-fiancé
The crowd gasped, finally sensing something was off.
Indeed... Vivian had grown up being doted on, using the inheritance of Henry's ex-wife, while the ex-wife's own daughter had nothing. This was really unacceptable!
Henry felt as if he was about to have a stroke. His face flushed suddenly, and he slammed the table in a fit of rage.
"What was your mother's is mine. She's dead anyway!"
With tears in my eyes, I spoke in a plaintive tone.
"I've already got nothing. For today's auction, Dad only brought the stepmother and her daughter, deliberately ignoring me. I know Dad doesn't love me, but I never thought you'd take Mom's relics to please the stepmother.
"I asked my sister for them in private, but Isabella said they were all hers and that I was trying to snatch her things. Dad, are you trying to drive me to death?"
I watched as Henry trembled all over with anger. He pointed at me and said, "You, you shut up..."
I continued crying and said, "Dad, you said I'm not as kind as Vivian. Well, all the things she donated were snatched from me. I really can't compare to her in terms of kindness."
The only sound in the whole hall was my mournful sobbing.
Gradually, some people started to speak up for me.
"Just now, Henry deliberately disowned this daughter outside the door. I was wondering about that. So he was afraid Eleanor would expose him!"
"Vivian kept showing off how kind she was, saying Eleanor only knew how to spend money. It's really laughable! The stepmother and stepdaughter embezzled the ex-wife's inheritance and still have the nerve to claim they're kind?!"
"Henry only knew to be partial to his illegitimate daughter. Turns out everything the illegitimate daughter has was stolen. What a disgrace! Poor Eleanor..."
Henry was red-faced and speechless, almost on the verge of fainting.
Vivian's eyes were bloodshot, and she was crying pitifully. "Eleanor, I really didn't know it was your mother's relic. There are so many necklaces at home. Maybe Dad didn't notice when he gave it to Mom. Otherwise, Dad surely wouldn't have done this."
"But now, the necklace has been donated to charity. Do you still want to take it back? So many poor children are waiting for the money from this. Sister, please be kind and don't be so petty, okay?"
Vivian was good at shifting the blame.
I sneered. With what she said, if I were to keep pressing the issue, wouldn't I seem like a heartless villain?
Unfortunately, I wasn't going to let Vivian have her way!
The auction hall fell into a deathly silence. Everyone turned to look at me, waiting for my response.
Vivian's eyes flickered, and she wore an aggrieved expression. "Eleanor, please, for the sake of those poor children, okay?"
I asked, "Use your name to donate my mother's item and then make everyone thank you?"
Vivian shook her head desperately, as if she was holding back to the limit.
"That's not what I meant. It's just that, Eleanor, you're the eldest daughter of the Lancaster family and have been used to a luxurious life. So you don't understand the hardships of those poor children. I just want to help them as much as I can. Although the donor's name is mine, fame doesn't matter to me. Why do you have to care about this, Eleanor..."
Isabella covered her mouth, and tears streamed down her face. "Even if my daughter used the wrong method, she did it for the good of those children. Eleanor, be sensible. You can't be so selfish..."
"Who said I'm not willing to donate the necklace?" I suddenly raised my voice.
"Vivian! I've never seen anyone as shameless as you. Using my mother's relic to gain a good reputation for yourself and then pinning the label of selfishness on me!"
"Since the necklace has been donated, of course I can't take it back! But the name of the donor must be changed to my mother's. You stole it and still want everyone to praise your generosity. Vivian, aren't you daydreaming?!"
After saying that, I turned to the auction host. "I, as Genevieve's daughter, will donate the 'Ocean’s Heart' worth 30 million pounds on behalf of my mother!"
The host was stunned for a while before coming to his senses. "Okay, okay... Miss Lancaster, please sign here."
I looked at Henry and the other two and cried out, "Dad doesn't care about Mom and can give Mom's relics to his illegitimate daughter for donation, but I can't! Since no one will stand up for Mom, I'll do it myself!"
Vivian was so angry that her face turned pale, and she trembled all over.
The guests in the audience also came to their senses, and their gazes towards the three-member family turned disgusted.
"Even now, Vivian is still shameless and unrepentant. She actually still wants to use the 'Ocean’s Heart' to build an image for herself?"
"Eleanor didn't say she wasn't willing to donate. She just asked to change the name to Genevieve. Look at Vivian's expression, it's as if she wants to kill Eleanor!"
"This is too much! The Lancaster family actually let Eleanor be left out while spoiling a selfish thief. I think Henry, though not very old, seems to have quite serious dementia!"
Henry's face immediately lost all color, and he could barely stand steady.
"Miss Lancaster, please wait a moment."
After I finished signing and was about to return to my seat, the host suddenly walked up quickly and said respectfully:"Miss Lancaster, our boss said that by uncovering the truth and donating the Ocean’s Heart, you're a great benefactor to our auction house. The boss has decided to award this medal to you."
It was the medal that was originally meant for Vivian!
I smiled faintly, glanced at Vivian's distorted face, and said, "Thank your boss for me."
The host agreed, then turned around and ordered coldly, "The boss said that these three would never be welcome at the auction house again. Somebody, escort them out!"
The bodyguards then carried the three of them out. Vivian was almost going crazy! Her sobbing roars could be heard from afar.
After the auction ended, I came out of the back door and was about to hail a taxi to go home.
"Eleanor."
Just then, a male voice sounded from behind.
Arthur walked up quickly and blocked my way.
I frowned. Just the sight of this man made me feel sick. "Get out of the way."
Arthur asked me, "Eleanor, what's wrong with you today? Do you know how much face you've made Vivian lose? Even if it was your mother's necklace, couldn't you have talked about it in private?"
I was so angry that I laughed, narrowing my eyes.
"I made her lose face? You mean, I should have known she stole my mother's relics and still generously gave them to her with both hands, telling her to keep them if she liked them? Is that what you think I should have done?"
Arthur's face suddenly flushed red. He stiffened his neck and said, "Why not? You two are sisters. Her glory is yours too. Why do you have to be so hard on her!"
I paused. His shamelessness was really beyond my expectations.
I suddenly looked up, stared at Arthur's face, and asked earnestly, "Arthur, did you bring your brain with you when you went out today?"
Only someone without a brain could say such stupid things.
Arthur sensed the mockery in my words and immediately flew into a rage, seizing my hand.
"Eleanor! Vivian has been putting up with you all these years. What more do you want?! Even if the way she used this time was wrong, it was you who forced her. Do you know how sad she is? Can't you learn from Vivian's kindness?"
My expression turned cold.
Vivian was sad?
I risked my life to save Arthur, but Arthur took Vivian's side against me. Was I not sad? Don't I have feelings?
Arthur owed me his life, yet now he was teaming up with that mother-daughter pair to frame me, break off our engagement, and snatch my mother's things. Was I not sad!
I didn't want to waste any more time with him. I used a deft movement to pull my hand back. "You're right. I really am not as kind as Vivian."
While Arthur was stunned, I gave a forceful kick to his knee. Caught off-guard, he dropped to his knees.
Arthur was furious. "How dare you kick me?!"
I withdrew my foot and nodded casually. "Yeah, well, I'm not as kind as Vivian, remember? Arthur, you can just stay here and kneel."
