Chapter 8 Can’t This Guy Stop Acting Like a Company President in a Novel?
F*ck! What should I do? What should I do? What should I do if Miss Yasmin comes in… Chloe kept stamping her foot nervously with a flustered look in her eyes.
Morgan found it very adorable seeing how frantic Chloe looked, but he also felt sorry for her nervousness and distress. Therefore, he pressed her shoulders—trembling restlessly because of her nervousness—firmly with his large hands.
Startled, Chloe looked at Morgan. To her surprise, the strength exerted on her shoulder slowly calmed her down; at this moment, she was like a lost child who needed a pair of hands to lead her to the exit.
“Don’t be afraid.” Miraculously, Morgan’s gentle voice slowly set her restless mind at rest and made her body stop trembling as if by magic. She turned her gaze to the door handle, only to find that Yasmin couldn’t open the door and come inside even though the door handle had been pushed down.
“Why did you lock the door, Chloe? Hurry up and open the door!” Yasmin was quite anxious; one could tell from the increasingly haughty tone in her voice that she no longer bothered to put on a front.
Chloe took a deep breath at this moment after being startled just now. Since she was free from the danger of being discovered, she was relieved. However, she was in a very bad mood because of the scare Yasmin had given her. “Wouldn’t you lock the door while changing your clothes?!” She spoke with emphasis and a vengeful note in her voice.
Standing outside the door, Yasmin probably didn’t expect the usually obedient Chloe to raise her voice at her, but she had to refrain from losing her temper at the Dixon Residence. Therefore, she could only gnash her teeth and order Chloe around. “Come downstairs once you finish changing your clothes! Don’t pull any cheap tricks!” she said.
“I got it!” Chloe answered impatiently, for she loathed Yasmin very much.
All her emotions were noticed by Cody, who saw different details whenever he came into contact with her. How could he not be interested in her when she gave him a pleasant surprise every time?
Every side of her had a distinctive charm of its own—her theatrics and pride during their first meeting four years later, her bold craftiness when they met the second time, as well as her panic, wariness, and angry blushes when they met the third time. He knew that this little thing was a treasure, for the more frequently he came into contact with her, the more hidden treasures he would find; it deeply attracted him to her.
After Yasmin left, Chloe looked at the man whom she found to be totally different this time. Her opinion of him had improved greatly, for he wasn’t mischievous and frivolous as he had been during their previous encounters. Instead, she was flustered by his steadiness, gentleness, maturity, reservedness, and noble elegance.
“Thank you.” Chloe was clear about whom or what to love or hate. This guy filled her with disgust during their previous encounters, but he did help her a lot this time.
Smiling nonchalantly, Morgan stepped back and lifted his hands off Chloe’s shoulders before folding his arms across his chest. “Let’s go out.”
Chloe nodded before hesitating for a moment. She then asked, “Can you go out five minutes after I leave?” Looking as innocent as a kid asking for candy, she looked at Morgan imploringly with her bright, sparkling eyes.
How could I have the heart to refuse such a girl? Morgan thought to himself. Still, the wickedness in him made Morgan say jokingly, “Why? Are you afraid that I’ll ruin your reputation?”
Chloe frowned; she didn’t like being misunderstood by him. “No, that’s not the case. I’m here to discuss my marriage. Although I don’t like it, I can’t be an embarrassment.”
Discuss her marriage! The look in Morgan’s deep, black eyes changed drastically as it suddenly became inscrutable.
Chloe sensed that the aura emanating from Morgan had suddenly become different. He no longer gave off harmlessly gentle and steady vibes; instead, he seemed to give off a feeling of… danger and seething anger. Seeing the inscrutable look in his deep eyes, a scared Chloe asked, “W-What’s wrong with you?”
Suddenly, Morgan sneered. “To who?”
“Doesn’t the Dixon Family only have one grandson who’s of marriageable age?” asked a surprised Chloe in reply. She thought to herself, Judging from how he showed up at the Dixon Residence, he should be one of the Dixons; why would he ask such a weird question?
That’s right; apart from Harry, who else in this family is of marriageable age? thought Morgan to himself with a sneer. Are they getting desperate?
Seeing the weird smile on Morgan’s face, Chloe was perplexed. Why is this guy even more unfathomable than most women? His mood changes from minute to minute, she thought to herself. “Well, I’m leaving first…”
Morgan merely stared at her without responding, making her wonder what he meant exactly. After hesitating for a while, Chloe slowly moved toward the door before opening it and running out.
The instant the door closed, Morgan curled his lips into a wicked smile. The game seems to have begun, he thought to himself as his aura changed drastically. Tilting his head to look at himself in the full-length mirror, he smiled gently at his reflection. Now that the game has begun, I can only play along and be a part of this show. Some things will eventually go to those they belong to, and some people may not get their hands on them even with their best efforts.
Fleeing the room in the white dress Harry had casually tossed to her, Chloe pulled herself together at the top of the stairs before going down leisurely. Perhaps she had changed out of the bold and revealing black tube dress, she looked like a completely different person in the white sleeveless dress that was girded at the waist. Despite her seductive makeup, she gave a pure feeling as she came downstairs leisurely and elegantly like a spring breeze that caressed one’s cheeks comfortably.
Harry didn’t expect this lady to have such a changeable temperament; she looked rather charming right now, but Harry’s favorable impression of her instantly vanished when he recalled how she skilfully and wildly teased him in that room.
Looking sideways at his grandfather, Harry noticed that the benevolent smile on Ben’s face had broadened; one could tell at a glance from Ben’s sparkling eyes that he was very, very satisfied with Chloe. Meanwhile, Harry simply frowned and gave off a chilly vibe.
Standing still next to the long dining table, Chloe said apologetically to Ben, “I’m sorry to have taken some of your time, Old Master Dixon.”
“You must be starving, right, Chloe? Sit down and eat.” Ben eagerly told Chloe to seat herself. The sentimentality and satisfaction in his eyes grew as he looked at Chloe. “This is good. This is so great,” he uttered.
Chloe took her seat with a smile and dined gracefully. Upon seeing such a contrast, Harry only had one feeling. This woman is so good at pretending!
During the meal, Ben would sometimes look at Chloe and whisper emotionally, “This is good. This is so great.” One could imagine how satisfied he was with Chloe and how fond he was of her.
Chloe felt extremely flattered by the fondness Ben showed her, whereas Yasmin was a bit surprised; everyone did not expect Ben to be so satisfied with Chloe.
“Why don’t I know that we have visitors in the house?” Just then, Chloe’s hands that were holding her cutlery froze when she heard the familiar voice from behind. If one looked closely, one would notice that she was somewhat nervous.
Drawn to the voice, everyone looked up to see a mature and reserved man slowly coming up to them with a matchlessly good-looking smile. Everything else instantly became an illusory background that served as a foil for him, for he was dazzling enough to become the focus whenever he was present.
Chloe was saddened to find that she was entranced by his looks again. D*mn it! Can’t this man stop acting like a company president in a novel?!
Standing still next to Ben, Morgan greeted respectfully in a soft voice, “Hi, Dad.”
This made Yasmin and Chloe’s eyes widen in surprise.
