Chapter 15 Like a Loving Housewife
Chloe hung her head in disdain; he was obviously a monstrous beast behind a human mask who liked to act elegant and pure. How was he fit to be a senior?!
Her impression of seniors had always been those who wore a white shirt and had a glowing aura that shone brightly and innocently under the sunlight. This man was nothing like that!
Morgan uncrossed his legs and put down the document in his hand. He then shifted in his position and placed a hand on his knee, propping his chin on the other.
He cocked his head in her direction and said, “It’s lunchtime, Clo. Go and prepare some food.”
Chloe was stunned. Make lunch?
Her eyes wandered around as she tried to decipher his words. Eventually, she smiled stiffly and said, “Sure, I’ll get to it right away.”
With that, she hurried off.
Watching as she left energetically, he had a fishy feeling about her behavior—he wasn’t quite sure if he had imagined it.
In the end, Morgan simply presumed that he’d been overthinking it; he shook away his thoughts, leaned back against the couch, crossed his legs, and started flipping through the documents again.
Meanwhile, Chloe found a variety of fresh ingredients in the fridge. She couldn’t help but feel impressed at the school’s ability to butter up their guests—everything was prepared thoroughly without fail.
She looked around and finally found what she was looking for. Retrieving the ingredients she needed, she picked up the huge chopping knife and got to work.
Since there was no noise coming from the kitchen, Morgan was suspicious of whether Chloe was actually preparing the food after some time.
After putting down the document, he stood up silently and headed to the kitchen with quiet footsteps.
He stood by the sliding door and noticed that Chloe was moving about busily in the kitchen. Then, he stopped and leaned against the frame of the door, not wanting to interrupt her.
Rays of sunlight shone through the window, dyeing the kitchen an orange glow; the woman was preparing lunch under the warm lighting like a loving wife who cared for her husband.
As he watched, he seemed to be entranced by the scene.
“Huh? Why are you standing there, Morgan? The food will be ready soon, so sit tight.”
Chloe turned around and saw him by the door. Instantly, she panicked. How could he stand here like this? It would be so distracting for her.
Morgan gave a slight smile and met her eyes which were round with surprise. “You look just like a loving housewife right now, Clo.”
A housewife? Whose?
Chloe gave it some thought, and she suddenly realized what he meant. Feeling his lingering gaze on her, an uneasiness washed over her; she became a little awkward.
“Haha. You’re so funny, Morgan. Haha…”
Chloe forced a laugh out, trying hard to brush off the awkwardness of the tense situation as she looked away from him. She made herself busy to distract herself but to no avail, for this man had too strong of a presence and was absolutely impossible to ignore that she couldn’t take her eyes off him no matter what—staring at him made her damned heart go crazy.
Morgan was well aware that she was annoyed and upset, yet he very much enjoyed admiring the uneasiness and panic that he had caused.
Though he was silent, his silence had won the game.
In the quiet kitchen, Chloe was the only one running about busily—she didn’t let herself stop for a moment. If she did, she wouldn’t know how to act and would only be flustered and embarrassed.
Time seemed to tick by slowly. Under the stressful watch of Morgan, she finally finished up all her tasks despite having dropped the spatula and some chopsticks—she even broke a few plates in the process!
“Food’s ready, Morgan.”
Chloe smiled softly and stood in front of Morgan with a dish in each hand, signifying him to get out of the way.
Morgan looked at her with a smile; his eyes seemed tender, but there was a hint of a tease to it.
Taking the plates from her hand, he turned and placed them on the dining table as Chloe stood on the spot, cursing him out under her breath!
Clearly, she had noticed the tease in his gaze. He must’ve enjoyed the many times she made a fool of herself during the cooking process!
“Why are you still standing there? Do you need me to carry you?” He bent down and prepared to pick her up.
Chloe snapped back instantly and jumped backward in shock. However, something was tugging on her clothes and she lost her footing.
A sturdy arm caught her by the waist just in time and pulled her body upright again, preventing yet another tragic fall.
Chloe was still in shock, and she leaned against his chest while panting hard with her eyes wide. That was scary.
“Are you that excited?”
Morgan’s voice rang in her ear, and she could almost hear the amusement in his voice.
Chloe was a little embarrassed—somehow, she was always irritable around this man. She frequently made a fool of herself and was subjected to his constant teasing.
Morgan let go of her. Lowering his glance, he found that her eyes were still round with panic and shy frustration. Right now, she even looked like she was in a daze.
Morgan took a step back and folded his arms. Looking at her solemnly, he said, “You can just tell me if you want me to carry you—don’t worry about it.” Then, he chuckled like a scheming fox.
Hearing him say that, Chloe was even more flustered. She shot him a fierce glare and yelled, “Go away!”
“Who’s going to carry you if I don’t?” said Morgan jokingly.
“Let’s go. It’s lunchtime for the wounded.” Without waiting for a response, Morgan bent down and swept her off her feet.
Chloe grabbed the front of his shirt instinctively so she wouldn’t fall.
Yet, the gesture had pulled her even closer to him. She looked exceptionally tiny and delicate as she curled into a ball in his arms, and Morgan felt his heart soften by the sight of it.
He then gently placed her in a chair by the table and said, “Sit here. Don’t move.”
Following that, Morgan straightened up and went to the kitchen to bring out the other dishes before filling two bowls with soup.
Chloe felt a little uncomfortable as she sat at the dining table. She was supposed to be his assistant, but now, she felt like she was being taken care of instead.
“Let’s eat.”
Morgan placed the bowl of soup in front of her and started eating right away.
Chloe nodded stiffly and picked up her cutlery before preparing to dig in. She was about to put some dishes on her plate when she paused all of a sudden.
She recalled what she had done to these dishes just now…
She looked up abruptly and noticed that Morgan, who was seated in front of her, had already placed a piece of roasted broccoli in his mouth…
Uh…
Chloe watched as he ate the vegetable, her brows tightly knitted and her eyes wide. She was anticipating his reaction.
She stared at him intently, only to find Morgan swallowing the broccoli without any change in his expression.
Huh? How odd. Can’t he taste it?
