Chapter 6 Justice Served in the Hospital
"You’re the doctor here? What kind of attitude is this!" Alan turned to Malcolm, frowning deeply.
"I’m the deputy director of cardiology and neurology. What about it? This is a hospital, not a place for your nonsense!" Malcolm retorted arrogantly, assuming Alan was one of Sebastian’s relatives.
"Planning to stir up trouble? I’ll call security to take all of you away!" Malcolm shouted.
"Ha! Go ahead," Alan scoffed, his anger evident.
"Malcolm! What’s wrong with you? This is Mr. Alan, the director of the Health Bureau!" Henry pushed through the crowd, overhearing the argument and growing both irritated and concerned.
"What?" Malcolm froze in shock. Realizing his blunder, he quickly apologized. "I’m so sorry, Mr. Alan. I didn’t recognize you..."
Alan let out a cold snort, ignoring Malcolm’s apology. Turning to Sebastian, his tone softened. "Sir, could we have a private conversation?"
"Yes, let’s find somewhere to talk. My office, perhaps?" Henry suggested with a smile.
"I’m afraid I can’t leave just yet," Sebastian replied calmly. "Someone here was threatening to call security on me."
"What’s going on?" Alan and Henry immediately sensed trouble and turned to look at Malcolm.
By now, Malcolm was drenched in sweat. The director and the health bureau chief, who had been addressing Sebastian so respectfully, were now staring him down.
"Mr. Alan, Dr. Henry, let me explain," Malcolm began, trying to save face. "This man tried to skip out on his bill. I saved his mother’s life, and instead of thanking me, he attempted to leave without paying. That’s why I called security."
The hallway erupted in discontent.
"He’s lying! That young man saved his own mother!"
"This quack has no shame."
"Exactly! He was about to send the woman to the morgue, nearly killing her, and now he’s blaming someone else."
Alan and Henry listened to the crowd and recalled Sebastian’s earlier display of medical skills. They quickly pieced together the truth. Both men turned to Malcolm, their expressions dark.
"Mr. Alan, Dr. Henry," Sebastian began, handing them an itemized bill. "My mother suffered a simple cerebral thrombosis, but his negligence nearly cost her life. As for this bill, it’s riddled with discrepancies."
Alan and Henry needed only a glance to confirm the fraudulent charges.
"Unacceptable! Malcolm, you’ve gone too far!" Henry shouted. "You’re unfit to be a doctor. Consider yourself fired!"
Under normal circumstances, Henry might have ignored such behavior. But with so many witnesses and the health bureau chief present, he had no choice but to act decisively.
"Dr. Henry, please! I made a mistake. Have mercy!" Malcolm begged, his voice quaking. Being fired would destroy his career.
"What you’ve done isn’t just unethical. It’s criminal," Alan said coldly. Malcolm had already offended him, and there would be no leniency.
"The Health Bureau will revoke your medical license and refer you to the judiciary," Alan declared, leaving Malcolm in a heap on the floor.
"Mr. Alan, Dr. Henry, please, have mercy!" Malcolm pleaded tearfully.
"This isn’t your first offense. You’ve brought disgrace to the medical field. You’ll be held accountable!" Alan stated firmly.
"Good!"
"This quack deserves it!" The crowd cheered, applauding the decision.
Malcolm, desperate, crawled to Sebastian and clung to his leg. "I didn’t realize who you were. Please forgive me. My family depends on me!"
"Forgive you? Did you ever consider the families you extorted and deceived?" Sebastian replied icily, kicking Malcolm away.
"Take him away!" Henry ordered. Security guards dragged Malcolm off as he shot Sebastian a hateful glare.
"Dr. Hughes, to make amends, the hospital will waive your mother’s medical fees and provide 6900 dollars in compensation. Does that suffice?" Henry asked.
"That will do," Sebastian nodded.
"Great. Let’s have Helen undergo a follow-up examination while we discuss this further in my office," Henry suggested.
"All right." Sebastian saw no reason to refuse and followed them.
"By the way, what’s your last name?" Henry asked as they sat down. He handed Sebastian a cup of tea.
"Hughes. My full name is Sebastian Hughes."
"Sebastian, where did you learn such incredible skills?" Alan inquired.
"I graduated from Kingsvale University, but I learned my medical techniques from my mentor," Sebastian replied.
Alan and Henry exchanged a knowing look. Their suspicions were confirmed—this young man had a formidable mentor.
"May I ask, who is your mentor? A national master of traditional medicine?" Alan asked, excitement evident in his voice. The country desperately needed someone to restore traditional medicine’s reputation.
