Chapter 4 His Gentleness
"How is Nina doing?" Zachary inquired of River once more.
"Nina is feeling weak, so please take good care of her when you return. It would be best to prepare some chicken chowder for her, not fish chowder."
“Why can't she have fish chowder?” He recalled that Nina used to enjoy fish chowder.
"Am I the doctor, or are you the doctor? Just follow my advice, okay?"
Zachary was speechless.
River was Zachary's childhood friend, and River was the only person who dared to argue with him without provoking his anger.
The September weather was already quite cool. Zachary removed his suit jacket and placed it on Nina.
His jacket was cozy, and it carried his distinct scent. After being shielded by him for two years, it felt somewhat uneasy for her to suddenly part ways.
"What's the matter? Are you cold?" He noticed her shivering even with the jacket on, so he embraced her.
"Mr. Malone, let's part ways here." Nina took a deep breath and returned the jacket to him.
People needed to learn to gradually adapt to changes.
"It's chilly outside. Don't catch a cold. Let's head home first, and I'll have Mya prepare chicken chowder for you tonight."
"No need to go through the trouble. I'll take a cab back to my parents' place."
"I'm concerned if you go back like this."
"What's there to worry about? My parents won't reject me just because I'm divorced. My belongings are still at your place, so please have Freddy assist me in sending them back. Thank you."
"Nina, let's not say hurtful words. Come back home with me first. We haven't finalized the divorce yet, so I have a responsibility to take care of you. After the divorce, you can move back anytime."
Nina remained silent. She wasn't feeling well and simply wanted to lie down.
Zachary didn't drive fast, but as soon as she stepped out of the car, she began vomiting by the flower bed.
She had already vomited what she had eaten the previous day, and she hadn't consumed any water today, so what she vomited out was all stomach acid mixed with traces of blood.
"Nina, remember to take care of yourself after the divorce. Your stomach isn't in good condition, so you need to eat on time." He handed her a bottle of water, and after she rinsed her mouth, he patted her back gently.
Nina suddenly felt a tinge of sadness. Zachary was so tender and caring. She couldn't bring herself to despise him even though she wanted to.
"Zach, since we're getting divorced, keep your distance from me a bit more. I don't want Sophie to misunderstand."
"All right."
The two of them entered the living room one after the other.
Sophie saw Zachary returning and welcomed him warmly.
"Zach, you're back."
"Your leg is still healing; don't move around unnecessarily. Let me help you to the couch." Zachary supported her.
"I'm fine, Zach. You always worry about me too much." Sophie pouted and smiled.
Nina stood still and was unsure if she should enter or not. Just then, she felt her stomach churning once again.
"Mrs. Malone, you're back. Let me assist you upstairs to rest." Mya Nicholson approached to help her.
"Thank you, Mya."
Mya aided Nina upstairs and offered comfort while also expressing discontent toward Sophie.
"Miss Shaw is shameless. You and Mr. Malone have a good relationship, but she insists on meddling."
"Mya, Zachary and I will eventually divorce. Please refrain from spreading rumors. She will be the mistress here in the future." Nina sighed softly.
"I refuse to acknowledge her. In my heart, there is only you, Mrs. Malone. If you leave, I will resign immediately."
Nina had been married to Zachary for two years and had been very kind to the household staff, so they all supported her.
"Mya, I'm feeling a bit fatigued and would like to take a break. You can leave now."
"Sure. Take your time to rest. I'll go and prepare some tasty food for you."
