Chapter 7 Simply Irritated By Her Presence
“I got it,” Sophie replied nonchalantly. “Don't contact me for a while.”
“What's wrong? Is there really something going on?” Some jobs could only be handled by her!
“It's nothing. I'm just tired. I want to live differently for a bit.”
“What? You're tired already? You're not thinking of quitting Wings of Light, are you? That's not acceptable, I won't allow it.”
Sophie couldn't help but laugh.
“Butterfly, I'm not quitting Wings of Light. I just have other things to deal with lately and don't want to take on any assignments. Turn down any requests, no matter who it's from or how much they're offering.”
“What exactly happened? If you can't handle it, you can tell me; every member of Wings of Light can help you figure it out.” They had plenty of talent in Wings of Light, and no matter who Sophie had crossed, they could deal with it.
“It's nothing.” Sophie didn't want to continue discussing it and ended the call directly.
Butterfly understood Phantom's temperament; if there was something she didn't want to discuss, no amount of questioning would make her talk. Moreover, Butterfly had faith that Phantom could solve any problem.
She would never understand the world of a genius.
When Sophie returned to her class, she noticed that the others were looking at her even more strangely than before.
Sophie was utterly indifferent to these gazes.
Queenie glanced at Sophie and couldn't help but sneer. Whether it was five years ago or five years later, Sophie always managed to annoy her.
After the first class ended, Sophie got up to head to the restroom. A girl in front of her also stood up.
“Sophie, nice to meet you, I'm Ysabelle Lombard,” said the girl with short hair, her large eyes strikingly beautiful.
Sophie merely grunted in response, not interested in engaging with her.
“Sophie, wait.” Ysabelle was not as tall as Sophie, nor was her legs as long, so she couldn't keep up with her pace.
“Is there anything else?” It was clear that the girl bore no ill will toward her.
“Sophie, they posted photos of you fighting on the school forum. You look so cool when you fight!” Ysabelle said admiringly.
“What photos?”
Ysabelle handed Sophie her phone.
“Can I hang out with you in the future?” Ysabelle asked with a smile.
“I don't hang out.” Sophie glanced at the photos. The forum was discussing Sophie's past, describing her as bad and shameless.
“Sophie, don't be angry. They are always talking nonsense. Don't take it to heart.”
“Go back! Don't stay with me.”
“Why? I really like you!” Ysabelle didn't mind Sophie's coldness.
Sophie couldn't do anything about girls like Ysabelle. She meant no harm, so Sophie let her tag along.
“Sophie, can you teach me how to fight?” Ysabelle asked sincerely.
“No.”
Sophie couldn't bring herself to hate someone like Ysabelle.
“Why not?” Ysabelle bit her lip. “Don't you like me?”
“I don't like you.”
“Why? Am I not cute enough?” Ysabelle tried to act cute in front of Sophie.
Seeing that Sophie still didn't smile, Ysabelle didn't give up.
“It's okay, you don't know me yet. When you get to know me, you'll definitely like me.” Ysabelle muttered to herself.
“Queenie, look. Ysabelle actually went to the bathroom with Sophie.”
“Hmph, this Ysabelle. She needs to be taught a lesson to know who's in charge of Senior Class 8,” Queenie said resentfully.
She wanted the whole class to isolate and bully Sophie so the latter would leave Jipsdale.
“Understood. Anyone who is with Sophie isn't anyone good.” The girls in the class all looked down on Ysabelle. She was pretty and did well in her studies, but her background wasn't impressive. Naturally, someone without connections like her was easy to bully.
When the bell rang, Ysabelle followed Sophie into the classroom.
Sophie sat in the back row, while Ysabelle sat in the third row because she wasn't that tall. However, as Ysabelle entered, someone stuck out their foot, tripping her.
Startled by the sudden trip, Ysabelle stumbled forward.
Upon hearing the commotion, Sophie swiftly turned around and caught Ysabelle, who fell into her arms.
“Who did it?” Sophie glanced around, and the class instantly fell silent.
Ysabelle was genuinely startled. She knew many in the class disliked Sophie, but she felt a genuine fondness for her as soon as she saw her.
She hadn't expected these people to target her so quickly.
“Sophie, I'm fine,” Ysabelle quickly reassured her, fearing that she might start a fight with them.
The girl who had stuck out her foot felt uneasy under Sophie's gaze but stood up nonetheless.
“It was her own fault. What does it have to do with me? Want to fight?”
After helping Ysabelle to her feet, Sophie then slowly made her way toward the girl.
“Apologize.”
“I'm sorry,” the girl apologized, her words devoid of any sincerity.
Sophie became furious.
She immediately stepped on the girl's foot.
As she stepped down, the girl felt an intense pain in her foot, so severe that it numbed her senses.
“You...”
The girl burst into tears.
“Sorry, didn't see you there,” Sophie said before turning around and returning to her seat.
Seeing Sophie act so decisively, Ysabelle liked her even more. She had never seen such a cool girl before.
Upon witnessing how ruthlessly Sophie acted, the other girls immediately fell silent, not daring to say anything.
Queenie clenched her fists. The Sophie of the past wasn't like this. The current Sophie made her feel uneasy.
“Yvonne, tell Mr. Hayes what happened after class. This is Jipsdale Premier High. I believe he wants Sophie to leave.”
Meanwhile, after class, Yvonne went crying to Derrick Hayes and called her parents.
“Mr. Hayes, look at my daughter's foot, it's all red. We've always sent our daughter here earnestly, but now she can't even walk properly! You must give us an explanation.” The Zales family was influential in Jipsdale and couldn't let their child be bullied.
Derrick frowned.
“Mrs. Zales, don't worry. There must be a misunderstanding. After all, they're just children.”
“How can I not worry? Yvonne, tell your teacher who did this?” Selena Ardern was very dissatisfied with Derrick's attitude.
“It's Sophie, who just transferred here, Mom. I heard Sophie often gets into fights. She even lived together with a thug and had an abortion. I don't want to be in the same class with such a student.” Yvonne cried even harder.
Derrick's expression grew darker the more he listened.
“Yvonne, where did you hear these things? It's not right to speak ill about your classmate like this. These are all baseless rumors.”
Regardless of anything else, they were his students. Such rumors could be very damaging to a girl.
“Mr. Hayes, are you siding with Sophie? If you don't give me an explanation today, I'll personally go to Mr. Langston,” Selena threatened angrily.
Just then, Sophie arrived at the office.
Seeing Yvonne, she already knew what was going on.
“Sophie! Did you step on Yvonne's foot?”
“Yes,” Sophie answered bluntly.
Derrick couldn't help but furrow his brow.
“Then, Sophie, is there any conflict between you two? It's normal for girls to have some conflicts.”
“No conflict, I just didn't like her.” Doing little tricks under her nose warranted a light lesson.
