Chapter 10 Poison
Immediately, Jonathan was drenched in cold sweat.
He had planned to use acupuncture to administer a poison, and that black pill was meant to delay the onset of the poison.
That way, if William were to die during Jared's treatment, it would be impossible for Jared to clear his name!
How did he realize it? Is he trying to scare me?
At once, Jonathan retorted, “What are you talking about? Are you suspecting me? Do you even understand acupuncture to speak so recklessly?”
He was convinced that Jared, a young man, had no expertise in acupuncture. Traditional acupuncture was part of traditional medicine, and unlike modern medicine, mastering it would take many years of dedicated study.
Jared appeared to be in his early twenties, and even if he had been learning acupuncture since birth, he couldn't possibly be very skilled.
“Do I understand acupuncture?” Jared let out a laugh.
With that, Jared made a swift move, and all Jonathan felt was a rush of air. After a short daze, he realized that all the silver needles he held had vanished.
He glanced at Jared, who was inspecting the silver needles.
“Dr. Watson, I had my suspicions, but I didn't expect you to be so impatient,” Jared remarked coldly.
Without hesitation, he hurled the needles with force, striking Jonathan directly.
The silver needles penetrated Jonathan's clothes, hitting a few acupoints on his body.
Jonathan turned pale with fear.
After all, these acupoints were the deadly points for this particular poison.
Sh*t, I'm doomed!
“Jared! How could you?” Jonathan cried out in agony, quickly retrieving his medical kit and desperately gulping down the same black pill he had given William earlier.
William regained his composure, albeit belatedly. He was puzzled by Jared's actions and asked in a deep voice, “Mr. Chance, stop this! What are you doing?”
Jared coldly snorted and said, “Your daughter takes after you. Both of you don't use your brains.”
“Y-You...” Josephine was about to refute his words when William stopped her from doing so.
He demanded, “Mr. Chance, what do you mean?”
Jared remained silent and instead grabbed Jonathan. “Let him clarify.”
Jonathan's face was ghastly pale as he muttered repeatedly, “I'm doomed...”
Even William and Josephine, who had previously been oblivious, now realized that something was awry with Jonathan.
“Dr. Watson, what did you do?” Josephine demanded furiously.
Jonathan seemed oblivious to her anger.
William, in a fit of rage, slammed his hand on the armrest and bellowed, “Jonathan, tell me the truth, or you won't get to leave this place alive!”
“It's the Scott family!” Jonathan hurriedly confessed. “The Scott family sent someone to deliver poison to me. They wanted me to create the illusion that you succumbed to your critical illness. Their aim is to seize control of the Sullivan family's assets after your death! Mr. Sullivan, I succumbed to greed and accepted their proposal. I made a grave mistake! Please spare my life! I can assist you in dealing with the Scott family. I'm willing to act as a double agent!”
“What?” William scowled.
He stood up and delivered a kick at Jonathan, sending the latter toppling to the ground.
“Jonathan, I trusted you for years, but you've proven to be nothing but ungrateful. Men, take him away and teach him a lesson!”
Hearing that, the bodyguards entered the room and dragged Jonathan out.
Jonathan wet himself in fear, and his voice was filled with desperation. “Mr. Sullivan, I was gravely mistaken! Please find it in your heart to forgive me! I can assist you in seeking retribution against the Scott family. I'm willing to act as a double agent!”
Alas, William's face was dark, and he remained unfazed.
After Jonathan's voice disappeared, William turned to Jared with respect in his eyes. “Mr. Chance, I deeply apologize. I placed my trust in the wrong individual. I not only almost misunderstood you but also came close to losing my family's wealth. I'm truly grateful. If you ever require my assistance, I am at your service...”
“That's enough,” Jared said, waving off William's gratitude. “It wasn't much trouble on my part. Save your thanks for after I've cured your condition.”
After calming down, William said, “Okay. Please go ahead, Mr. Chance!”
Jared nodded, then picked up Jonathan's medical kit.
After rummaging for a while, he surprisingly found a pile of silver needles.
He selected eighty-one of them and prepared to begin his treatment.
Traditional medicine acupuncture was within his skill set.
Josephine, still shaken by the day's events, asked, “Mr. Chance, those silver needles...”
“No worries.” Jared explained, “The type of poison he used was colorless and tasteless. It is not something that can be easily prepared either. These silver needles aren't contaminated.”
“Oh, that's great.” Josephine was relieved.
She couldn't help but notice Jared's unique aura, which brought her a sense of comfort.
She blushed at the thought.
Meanwhile, Jared had William lie down, and he proceeded to carefully insert several needles into specific acupoints, causing William to enter a deep sleep.
Movement was not advisable during the acupuncture treatment.
Following that, Jared began waving his hands, and the silver needles seemed to dance as they continuously pierced into William's body.
A while later, Jared's forehead began to sweat, and he appeared to be exerting great effort. His clothes were soaked through as well.
When the final needle was inserted into William's body, Jared let out a long breath and sat down on the ground, looking drained.
Josephine had been watching in awe the whole time. She was unable to comprehend acupuncture but wanted to ask Jared to take a break. However, she was reluctant to disturb him and didn't want to affect her father's condition.
Jared noticed her gaze.
Panting, he reassured her with a smile, “No need to fret. I employed the Soul Resurrection Needle, a technique capable of reviving even the deceased. Mr. Sullivan will recover completely.”
Seeing Jared's rare display of confidence, Josephine hastily praised, “Impressive!”
After the day's tumultuous events, she had complete faith in Jared as a true miracle doctor.
Just then, William started coughing and gradually regained consciousness.
“Dad!” Josephine reacted quickly, trying to help her father up, but Jared stopped her with a firm grip. “Ms. Sullivan, he mustn't move right now. Let me remove the silver needles from his body first.”
Holding Josephine's delicate hand, which felt both soft and warm, Jared felt a wave of emotion surge through him. Josephine also seemed to sense the warmth in Jared's touch and blushed. “Thank you!”
Jared quickly released her hand, regaining his composure.
Standing in front of William, Jared waved his hands gently, and all eighty-one silver needles were drawn into his palm.
“It's done,” Jared announced to Josephine after tossing the needles back into the medical kit.
At that moment, Josephine had no doubt about Jared's abilities and thanked him sincerely.
She then helped William up and asked, “Dad, how do you feel now?”
“I... actually feel remarkably well. Better than ever, even!” William exclaimed with a beaming smile. He turned to Jared and said eagerly, “Mr. Chance, starting today, you are a true savior of the Sullivan family. Anything you request, my family will readily provide.”
