Chapter 11 Gifting Him A House
“It was nothing, Mr. Sullivan. You've been doing a lot of good deeds, so think of this as your good deeds paying off,” Jared said calmly. Then, he added, “Although I have treated your disease with acupuncture and cured your poisoning, I will have to treat you again three months later to make sure you don't suffer from a relapse. You were sick for a very long time, after all.”
William then fell to his knees with a loud thud and thanked Jared profusely, exclaiming, “Thank you very much, Mr. Chance!”
“No need to thank me, Mr. Sullivan. It's only natural that I would save you since we ran into each other. Besides, you guys helped me out today. I still need some rare medicinal herbs, though. You'll have to prepare them for me, Mr. Sullivan!”
Jared had no money to buy medicinal herbs for William, as most of them were incredibly expensive. Probably not many people could afford them.
“Just let me know what you need, Mr. Chance!” William said while nodding profusely. He then turned toward Josephine and continued, “Josephine, go get a pen and a piece of paper to write it all down!”
Jared nodded and wrote Josephine a long list of medicinal herbs that he needed.
“Mr. Sullivan, a majority of these medicinal herbs are stuff that you need for your own treatment. However, a small portion of it is for my mother, who went blind in both eyes. I'll need some medicinal herbs to treat her condition as well,” Jared stated honestly.
Hannah had gone blind from crying too much, so it wouldn't be difficult for Jared to help restore her eyesight.
Given his current capabilities, however, it would be hard for him to obtain the medicinal herbs required. As such, he decided to have the Sullivan family gather them for him instead.
There were two items that Jared feared the Sullivan family would be unable to find, though. One of which was a calligraphy brush with a certain amount of spirituality.
The other was a cinnabar rosary made out of hundred-year-old rosewood or sandalwood.
All Jared had to do was gently tap the calligraphy brush with spirituality onto Hannah's eyes to restore her eyesight.
Although he had included both of those items on the list, Jared did not hold high hopes that the Sullivan family would find them as they were extremely rare and would require an expert to identify them.
“Just tell us what you need, Mr. Chance! I'll definitely help you out as long as it is something within my capabilities!” William said.
“Mr. Chance, what do you need the calligraphy brush and cinnabar rosary for?” Josephine asked all of a sudden.
Calligraphy brushes and cinnabar rosaries aren't used for treating diseases, and they're pretty much available everywhere!
William shot Josephine a glance and chided, “Josephine, Mr. Chance must have his reasons for including those items on the list. Do not question him!”
“It's fine! Those two items are also needed for the treatment. Those aren't ordinary calligraphy brushes and cinnabar rosaries, though. I need ones with spirituality!” Jared said with a smile.
“Spirituality?” Josephine became confused when she heard that.
William, too, had no clue what Jared meant by “spirituality.”
“Just as everything in the world will eventually come to an end, every item in existence contains some level of spirituality. Even inanimate objects, like tables and chairs, can contain spirituality. However, certain conditions would first have to be met!” Jared explained when he saw the puzzled look on their faces.
Fearing that they wouldn't understand his explanation, Jared added, “Take this chair I'm sitting on for example. If I were to sit on this chair and train for hundreds of years, it would slowly start to gain some spirituality.”
“Oh, I get it now! It's just like in the movies, right? Even a tree can have spirituality and eventually take a human form after existing in the immortals' cave for a prolonged period of time!” Josephine exclaimed.
William felt speechless when he heard what she said. “Do not say such nonsense, Josephine!”
What era is she living in? There's no such thing as immortals!
“Your explanation is correct, Ms. Sullivan. That is exactly what I meant,” Jared said with a smile.
Back then, he didn't believe in such things either. After training under Draco for three years, however, he realized there were many things in the world that he did not know about.
The Focus Technique that Draco passed on to him, for example, was a technique from spiritual energy cultivation. Jared would be able to become an immortal once he successfully cultivated it.
William let out an awkward chuckle as he didn't expect Josephine to be right about it. While he would have scoffed at those who told him about immortality and spirituality, he found himself starting to waver when he heard about them from Jared.
After chatting for about ten minutes, Jared slowly stood up and said, “I need to head home to care for my parents, Mr. Sullivan. Just give me a call once you have all the medicinal herbs ready.”
Jared was worried about his mother, who was at home all by herself.
“Where do you live, Mr. Chance?” William asked.
“I live in Happy Avenue. Is something the matter?” Jared asked with a puzzled expression.
“Oh, it's nothing, really. I have a spare house that I haven't used in ages, so I was thinking of giving it to you. It's particularly suitable for treatment and recovery, so you should find it useful,” William replied while retrieving a key from his pocket.
“Thank you very much, Mr. Sullivan!”
Jared was going to decline the offer at first, but he changed his mind when he thought about the old house that his parents were living in. Since earning enough money to afford a house would take a lot of time, he decided to accept the offer.
Upon receiving the key, however, Jared froze when he saw that it was for a mansion in Dragon Bay.
That neighborhood was the best in all of Horington. Because it was located atop the only mountain in Horington, it had a breathtaking view, and the air quality there was amazing.
The residents in that neighborhood were all wealthy and powerful elites in society. Ordinary people like Jared wouldn't even be able to afford the management fees.
“T-This is way too expensive of a gift, Mr. Sullivan! I think you should keep it for yourself instead!” Jared exclaimed as he tried to return the key.
“Are you implying that my life isn't worth more than a mansion, Mr. Chance?” William asked.
As such, Jared had no choice but to accept the gift. William then handed him a debit card with ten million inside.
Jared knew that he wouldn't be able to refuse that either, so he stuffed the debit card into his pocket as well.
William flashed him a smile as he turned around and told Josephine, “Since Mr. Chance is heading home, why don't you give him a ride, Josephine?”
Hearing that, Josephine froze. “Huh?”
William pretended to get angry as he urged her, “Well? What are you waiting for? Get a move on!”
Jared simply flashed Josephine a helpless smile in response.
A satisfied smile formed on William's lips as he watched them leave.
It wasn't until the two had disappeared from sight that his smile faded away.
He then grabbed his phone and made a call.
William's eyes lit up with a sharp glint as he said, “Order all businesses of the Sullivan family to prepare for corporate warfare. Yes, that's right. Begin preparations tonight. Our target is the Scott family!”
