Chapter 4 The Judgment of Life and Death
"You're really stubborn. It seems you have to learn the hard way," Spencer sneered.
At this moment, Selina scolded, "Spencer, please don't be rude to Mr. Shaw."
Spencer's face turned sour. He had been pursuing Selina for three or four years, but she scolded him for the sake of a man she had just met.
Spencer took two steps back. His face clouded with anger as he discreetly dialed a number.
"Mr. Shaw, in gratitude for your kindness, please accept this Yorm Dragon Jade," Selina said, handing Dwayne a piece of blood-red jade carved in the shape of a dragon, which was obviously invaluable.
The bodyguards' expressions changed drastically.
The Yorm Dragon Jade symbolized the highest honor within the Yorm Family. To hold this jade meant one was regarded as the most distinguished guest of the Yorm Family. Even the patriarch would have to show respect in their presence.
Of course, if Dwayne could save the older man, he would be more than worthy of such an honor.
Selina's gesture also motivated Dwayne to put forth his best effort to save her grandpa.
Dwayne couldn't refuse, so he reluctantly accepted it.
He stood before the older man, raising his left hand toward the man's forehead.
His left hand represented life, and his right hand represented death. Following the principles of his cultivation, he directed his energy through his meridians.
Dwayne felt a warm sensation coursing through his body. In the next moment, a white halo consisting of five concentric layers appeared in his palm.
The innermost layer was the smallest, and each successive layer grew larger and was adorned with intricate patterns.
Dwayne glanced at Selina and the others, who showed no reaction.
It was apparent that only he could see the halo.
With a focused mind, information about the older man flooded his thoughts.
Name: Bryan Yorm.
Age: 83
Cause: Envied by others due to his high position.
Effect: Chronically poisoned, with severe damage to all internal organs, hanging by a thread.
Result: Judged as Level One Life
Dwayne was stunned. Not only had he learned the man's identity, but he also knew the cause and effect perfectly.
Had I truly become the arbiter of life and death?
"Mr. Shaw, how is he?" Selina asked anxiously.
"Your grandpa was poisoned. The poison has penetrated deep into his bones. I'll try my best," Dwayne replied casually.
His words made Spencer's face darken. A glint of malice flashed in Spencer's eyes. This man must not be allowed to live.
Dwayne wasn't clear on what Level One Life meant. Is life judgment divided into levels one, two, and three?
Regardless, he decided to give it a try.
With a thought, the halo began rotating counterclockwise and emitted a trace of golden light, quickly spreading across the first layer of the halo.
Dwayne was ecstatic. His intuition told him that Bryan would recover if he could inject the halo into his body.
However, at this moment, Spencer shouted, "He's right here! This fraud pretended to be a doctor and killed Old Mr. Yorm!"
Several police officers hurried over.
Selina turned to him. "Did you call the police?"
Spencer replied, "This kid doesn't even have a medical license. He's clearly a fraud. I'm doing this for your own good. Don't you want Old Mr. Yorm to pass away with dignity?"
Selina's beautiful eyes filled with doubt. She had sought Dwayne's help in desperation. Seeing how young he was, how could he be a miracle doctor?
Spencer stepped forward, pushing Dwayne aside. "Get away. You're the executioner who's killing Old Mr. Yorm!"
The stable halo began to distort, and the intricate patterns started to warp.
This isn't good!
Dwayne quickly stood up, but his chest felt like it was being torn apart.
It was a backlash. The interrupted life judgment had resulted in his energy being unstable, causing turmoil within his core.
Spencer grabbed Dwayne by the collar and spat, "You worthless fraud without a medical license, how dare you lay a hand on the Yorm Family's most esteemed member. You're seeking death."
"Let go! If you keep this up, he will really die!" Dwayne shouted furiously, summoning a burst of strength and shoving Spencer aside.
He placed his left hand on the halo, calming the twisted light and letting it merge into Bryan's body.
"You sc*m!" Spencer nearly stumbled, his face twisted in humiliation, and he punched Dwayne in the stomach.
Dwayne was already very weak. He couldn't dodge in time and took the hit head-on.
The police rushed over and restrained Dwayne.
Spencer raised his hand, slapping Dwayne across the face. "Scum, you killed Old Mr. Yorm, and now you'll pay with your life."
Bryan's death had nothing to do with Dwayne, but that didn't matter. With his connections, Dwayne would be branded a murderous fraud.
Selina's eyes dimmed. She realized she had been deceived.
"Selina, don't worry. Anyone who dares to harm Old Mr. Yorm will pay the heaviest price." As he spoke, Spencer's hand reached for her shoulder, eyes gleaming with desire.
"Cough!"
Suddenly, Bryan, who had already passed away, lay in the wheelchair, coughing violently and gasping for breath with his mouth wide open.
Spencer was startled, his hand suspended in mid-air.
"Grandpa!"
Selina was overjoyed and rushed over, but his face turned ashen. How could he be alive again?
"He was dead. How is he breathing?"
"Could the young man have actually saved him?"
"It's nonsense. He didn't do anything. The elderly man must've been in a coma and only woke up by chance."
The surrounding crowd murmured.
Dwayne's eyes gleamed with joy. Only he knew the truth.
