Chapter 7 The Gathering at Greenville Villa
That sc*mbag still had over ten years left to live?
Dwayne activated Level One Death.
He had a thought. A black ring appeared, dotted with crimson spots that spun clockwise. The first layer turned dark red, exuding a menacing aura.
Lester's lifespan was reduced to 25 years.
Simultaneously, he issued another command, magnifying Lester's current health conditions.
Within a week, he'd suffer constant, splitting headaches, and three months later, he would die.
The dark red glow seeped into Lester's body, and he clutched his head in agony, collapsing to the ground.
Dwayne let go and said coldly, "Get lost."
Lester staggered to his feet, supported by his lackeys. He pointed at Dwayne and spat out a threat. "Just you wait. One day, I'll make sure you regret this!"
Dwayne merely smirked in contempt.
Lester was already a dead man for him.
This incident was just a minor distraction. Although Dwayne felt avenged, Claire spent the next half-hour scolding him.
They were ordinary people with no power or influence. If the police got involved and he was detained, it would be a huge problem.
Claire could bear some suffering herself, but she wouldn't let her brother's future be ruined on her account.
Dwayne nodded repeatedly, saying, "I understand." He had lost his mother at a young age, and his sister was his only family. Being reprimanded by his sister was a kind of happiness for him.
Just days ago, he wouldn't have dared even to imagine such a thing.
In the evening, Dwayne and Claire sat in a park chatting after finishing dinner.
At this moment, a phone call came in.
Dwayne stepped aside to answer, hearing a cold female voice, "Where are you? Why aren't you back yet?"
"I'm at the hospital taking care of my sister." His tone and expression changed slightly.
The caller was none other than his nominal wife, Evelyn.
"Oh," Evelyn responded, her tone indifferent. "Tomorrow, you'll come with me to Greenville Villa. Dress well. I don't want you embarrassing me."
"Why are we going there?" Dwayne asked.
"The head of Yorm Family, the largest family in Celestial, Bryan, has just recovered from a severe illness. Our Lynn Family is going to congratulate him and bring gifts," Evelyn answered.
"But I need to look after my sister," Dwayne said.
"Beep."
Before he could finish, the call ended.
That night, he stayed up, worrying about who would take care of his sister. Early the following day, three highly trained caregivers arrived at the door.
"We were sent by Miss Lynn. We're specialized caregivers and will handle all of your sister's needs."
At this moment, Dwayne called, "You better be standing outside the entrance to Greenville Villa by 9 a.m. sharp."
Greenville Villa was one of the most luxurious hotels in Ashtonville, situated atop Frosty Mountain.
It was a place that could overlook half of Ashtonville on a good day.
When Dwayne arrived, security stopped him at the red line.
Before long, a familiar scent drifted from behind him.
He turned around and saw Evelyn standing behind him. Her features were delicate and refined, her skin flawless as jade, and her eyes bright and clear as stars. Just by standing there, she drew the attention of countless men and women.
A gentle breeze swept across the mountain, causing her long hair to sway gracefully. Her beauty was otherworldly, beyond description.
As the saying goes, a painting within the forest was as beautiful as the first ink stroke.
"Did you really come dressed like this?" Her sharp gaze swept over his outfit.
He wore a plain white T-shirt, faded jeans, and inexpensive sneakers, all worth no more than 30. This made even the doorman appear more dignified.
"It might be a bit worn, but it's clean." Dwayne touched his sleeve.
His sister had taken extra care in washing it for him.
When he resisted, Claire even got angry, saying he'd only make it worse if he washed it himself.
Evelyn frowned disapprovingly but said nothing. After all, their relationship would soon be over.
"Old Mr. Yorm's recovery is a grand occasion. Nobles and the wealthy from Ashtonville will all be here. Additionally, Grandma and Uncle Samuel will be there. Don't speak carelessly inside. If you cause trouble, no one can protect you."
With that, Evelyn picked up the gift box and walked inside.
Oh. I forgot to prepare a gift. Dwayne slapped his forehead in frustration.
Even if he borrowed money for a gift worth thousands, it would still look like trash to the Yorm Family.
Suddenly, he remembered something and reached into his pocket, pulling out a jade pendant.
It was a gift from Selina the day before.
Although he didn't know much about jade, the pendant was vibrantly colored and smooth to the touch. Considering that Selina was no ordinary person, the gift was likely valuable enough to be presented.
He pocketed the jade pendant and quickly approached her, saying, "Thank you for arranging care for my sister."
Her expression didn't change as she replied indifferently, "I didn't want you distracted or saying anything inappropriate that would disgrace the Lynn Family."
Her voice was as cold and proud as ever. Yet, Dwayne felt a strange warmth inside. She's still thinking of me.
The hotel's open-air platform was covered with a red carpet and filled with the soft music of violins. Men and women dressed in luxurious attire mingled, holding wine glasses as they socialized.
Dwayne's appearance drew stares from the crowd.
The story of the Lynn Family taking in a useless son-in-law had long been a public joke.
As Dwayne passed, some of the wealthy guests covered their noses as though his presence carried the stench of poverty.
