Chapter 3 Illegitimate Child Of Don Moriarty
“Who are you?” Ethan asked, looking at the newcomer with curiosity.
The newcomer was an impeccably dressed elderly man. He was merely standing there, yet his elegant demeanor was irresistibly endearing.
“This is our first meeting, Mr. Ethan. You may call me Frank.
Frank crouched down next to Ethan, simultaneously extending a hand toward the latter.
Instinctively, Ethan grasped the hand extended toward him, unsure of why this distinguished-looking elder, whose status was apparent at first glance, was seeking him out. “Mr. Frank, I don't believe we've met before. May I ask why you're looking for me?”
“There will be plenty of opportunities for us to interact in the future. Moreover, there's no need to be so formal with me, Mr. Ethan. I'm merely your father's butler,” Frank said with a smile.
“Butler? Father?” Ethan's expression turned somewhat peculiar. “Don't tell me my father's name is Thomas Wayne. In that case, you should be called Alfred, Mr. Butler.”
Frank shook his head, his smile unwavering. “Even though your father isn't Thomas Wayne from the comics, he's no less than him.”
“That's enough.” Ethan stood up, turned to Frank, and said, “Even though I've indeed had a terrible day, I'm not yet at the point of becoming a joker. You don't need to console me anymore. I have urgent matters to attend to. Excuse me.”
The surgery for Ethan's mother could no longer be postponed. Ethan decided to ask a few friends if he could borrow some money.
Frank also stood up, blocking Ethan's path. “If you're still anxious about your mother's surgery, I suggest you relax. That's because the operation should be nearly finished by now.”
“What are you talking about?” Ethan asked, staring blankly at Frank.
“You could make a call to confirm,” Frank suggested with a smile.
In a flurry, Ethan hastily pulled out his phone and immediately contacted his mother's attending physician. “Dr. Albert, about my mom's surgery—”
“Oh, your mother's surgery is very successful. I was just about to inform you,” Albert said from the other end of the phone.
“About the surgical fees...”
“Surgical fees?” Albert asked in surprise. “Haven't you already paid? The hospital director personally urged me to perform the surgery ahead of schedule. That old geezer wouldn't be so proactive if he hadn't received the money.”
After Ethan hung up the phone, his mind went blank, and he stared blankly at Frank.
“It seems you have many questions,” Frank said, pointing to a luxurious Bentley not far away. “Why don't we first go to the hospital to visit your mother, and we can talk more on the way? Perhaps you have no recollection of your own father, but your father has always remembered you, his son.”
Frank was driving the car, seated at the wheel, while he spoke to Ethan in the passenger seat. “Just as I said, although your father may not be a figure like Thomas Wayne, he is no less than him. His name is Michael Moriarty. Perhaps you might find this name unfamiliar. After all, the Don didn't like his name appearing in the media. Or maybe if I use a different title, you might recognize him. He's Don Moriarty, the don of the Moriarty family, the largest mafia family in the entire Atharia!”
