Chapter 6 Sexual Harassment
Ethan waved his hand and said, “No. I'm not looking to rent a house. I want to buy one. Ideally, it should be fully furnished so I can move in immediately.”
Originally indifferent, Evelyn perked up immediately upon hearing this, hastily saying, “You want to buy a house? Of course! Of course, I'm sure I have a property here that will satisfy you. Please have a seat first. I'll get the booklet for you. You can enjoy your coffee while taking your time to choose.”
As she spoke, Evelyn led Ethan to a table, which was adorned with a variety of small snacks. After preparing a cup of coffee for Ethan, she hurried off to fetch the listings booklet.
The other salespeople noticed the commotion over there, all casting envious glances toward Evelyn.
It was important to note that the houses from Splendor Real Estate were generally not cheap. If a unit was sold, the salesperson could draw a substantial commission from it.
Ethan casually picked up a small biscuit and began to eat it. He then tasted the coffee and found the flavor to be quite satisfactory.
Evelyn quickly approached with a booklet in her hand. “Sir, these are all the move-in-ready homes. If you see something you like, we can go and view it immediately.”
Ethan nodded, taking the booklet and began to flip through it.
During this time, Evelyn had leaned over, gently introducing Ethan to some houses in the booklet that she found satisfactory. This was a small sales tactic to build a closer relationship with the client. Of course, it was only recommended for female salespeople to use with male clients. It was not advised for male salespeople to use this approach, as it could potentially lead to accusations of sexual harassment.
Ethan's mind was no longer on the booklet in his hands. Evelyn was leaning too close to him, especially when she spoke, the warmth of her breath fanning his ear, causing a ticklish sensation.
Evelyn quickly flipped through the thin booklet, almost leaning her entire body against Ethan. She gently asked, “What do you think, Sir? Any houses you fancy?”
Ethan shook his head. “No, I don't like any of these houses. If these are the only options here, I'll have to look elsewhere.”
“What?” Evelyn instantly straightened up, raising her voice. “Are you messing with me?”
“No... No.” Ethan hastily waved his hands and explained, “The ones you've recommended to me are all second-hand condominiums and apartments, but what I'm looking for is a single-family home, preferably a mansion with a garden. If you have any, could you please recommend some more?”
As he spoke, Ethan pulled out a black credit card and placed it on the table. “There should be enough money on this card,” he said.
The look in Evelyn's eyes toward Ethan changed when she heard those words. It wasn't the admiring gaze one would give to a wealthy person, but rather a disdainful look one might reserve for a fool.
“Please, do you really take me for a fool? Buying a mansion? With a credit card?” Evelyn scoffed.
In Cadrexia, a mansion with a garden could easily cost hundreds of millions, if not a billion. A credit card, with a limit of only a few hundred thousand at most, would be maxed out just to purchase a bathroom.
Not far away, other salespeople who had been closely observing the situation burst into laughter upon hearing Ethan's words. “Hahaha! This young man wants to buy a mansion. Evelyn has landed herself a big spender!”
“Who would have thought he'd become a billionaire at such a young age? He's truly enviable!”
“I bet this billionaire is going to invite Evelyn to spend the night next!”
Evelyn's expression was ever-changing, a clear indication that she could hear the mockery in her coworkers' words. After all, there had indeed been instances in the past where salespeople were deceived into bed under the pretense of viewing a house. Who would have thought that such a thing would happen to me today?
“Sir, you came here looking for trouble on purpose, didn't you?” Evelyn arched an eyebrow, her face as cold as frost. “I've noticed your inappropriate gaze since a while ago,” she said. “If you're looking to pick up girls, please go to a bar. Don't interfere with our work, or I'll have to call security.”
Ethan was dumbfounded. What on earth is going on?
“Evelyn, I think you've misunderstood. I really do want to buy the mansion—”
Before he even had a chance to explain, Evelyn crossed her arms and shouted, “Security!”
The security guard, who had been ready at the side for a while, immediately approached. He placed his hand on Ethan's shoulder. “Sir, please come with me.”
At this point, Ethan was also angry. I'm a customer and should not be subjected to such rudeness!
“Miss, are you sure you want to drive away an important customer?” Ethan asked.
The security guard remained indifferent, forcibly trying to drive Ethan away.
At that moment, a middle-aged man walked through the door. Upon witnessing the scene, he immediately furrowed his brows. “What's going on?”
Evelyn, who had initially worn a cold expression, immediately pouted upon seeing this man. She uttered in an aggrieved tone, “Mr. Bob, I've been sexually harassed. I was just about to ask the security guard to have him thrown out!”
The manager named Bob's face fell, his eyes filled with intense hostility as he looked at Ethan. “Such audacity, daring to harass the staff of Splendor Real Estate! Call the police! We must call the police!”
Everyone knew that Evelyn was the most beautiful girl in the branch office. Yet, they hadn't managed to win her over, and surprisingly, a loser had beaten them to it.
Upon hearing about calling the police, Evelyn immediately felt a sense of inconvenience. She quickly said, “Never mind. After all, he hasn't done anything to me. Even if the police come, there's no evidence. It's better to just send him away directly.”
Upon hearing this, Bob nodded slightly, then glared at Ethan, saying, “Listen here, Sir. You're not welcome here. Please leave immediately!”
Upon regaining his composure, Ethan was filled with anger. He was merely trying to buy a house. Why should I have to endure such humiliation? Not only have I failed to buy the house, but I'm also getting slandered and harassed by others!
Bang!
Ethan slammed the black credit card onto the table, bellowing, “I came here to buy a house, not to be treated poorly. If I don't receive an apology today, no one is leaving!”
The security guard immediately halted.
Bob's gaze was almost predatory, yet instinctively, he still managed to catch a glimpse of the credit card in Ethan's hand from the corner of his eye.
In the next moment, something happened.
Boom!
Bob was struck dumb, his mind going blank for a moment, his eyes wide in disbelief. “Wait...”
Beads of sweat, as large as beans, rapidly seeped from his forehead.
