Chapter 4 The Divorce Agreement
Even after he returned home, Ethan's mind was still blank. All he could remember was following Frank, the butler, to the hospital. His mother's room had been transferred from a regular ward to a VIP one. He had watched his mother, still lying in bed, through a glass wall, with Frank and a fawning hospital director by her side.
Afterward, he was sent back to his residence, now holding an additional black credit card in his hand, embossed with “Moriarty” in golden color.
This was a credit card that only immediate members of the Moriarty family could possess. It could be used in any bank across Atharia, and the overdraft limit varied for each family member. His card, however, had a staggering limit of one billion.
Moreover, unlike ordinary credit cards, the money on this card could be withdrawn. However, only up to ten million could be withdrawn at a time. All of this was guaranteed by the Moriarty family.
However, Ethan was just sitting on the couch, examining the card in his hand, his expression inscrutable. “How many owners has this card actually passed through?”
Ethan still remembered the words Frank had told him before he left. “The reason why Don Moriarty has not acknowledged you for such a long time is also for your own safety. Before Don Moriarty firmly took control of the Moriarty family, becoming the biggest mafia don in Atharia, he had already lost three sons, all assassinated. And you, Ethan, you are his last and only son left! You are destined to take over the Moriarty family, to become the next don. This card is your father's greeting gift, as well as compensation for all these years...” Frank said.
“Heh! Compensation? It's truly an offer one can't refuse...” Ethan casually tossed the credit card worth a billion onto the table in front of him, rubbing his face in distress.
It wasn't that he had any objections to this one billion. It was mainly Michael's sudden intrusion into his life that left him feeling somewhat at a loss.
Especially, the other party's identity made him feel uncomfortable.
Could it be that I, who have always been law-abiding since childhood, actually have a father who is a mafia don with his hands stained in blood? So it turns out that the veins of sin have been coursing through me all along? What should I do in the future? Continue to be a worker exploited by capitalists, or follow Michael, causing havoc wherever we go? This was somewhat hard for Ethan to accept.
At that moment, the sound of unlocking from the door interrupted Ethan's chaotic thoughts.
“Oh, you're still at home?” A finely dressed Olivia walked in, carrying a handbag, with her younger brother Henry trailing behind her.
Ethan glanced at the two of them nonchalantly and said, “Where else could I be if not at home?”
“I thought you had gone to the hospital to take care of your wretched mother,” Olivia said, curling her lip in disdain.
Before Ethan could get angry, she continued, “Since you're at home, it's the perfect time to sign this agreement!”
With that, she pulled out an agreement from her bag and tossed it onto the table.
Ethan picked it up and took a look. It was a divorce agreement. After just a glance, Ethan put it down and looked up at Olivia, who wore an expression of impatience.
“You want to divorce me? Are you sure?” Ethan was somewhat taken aback, yet a sense of relief also welled up within him.
“Nonsense. I've been fed up with you for a long time. I wasted three years of my youth on you, a good-for-nothing. Hurry up and sign it, so we'll have nothing to do with each other from now on!” Olivia said, crossing her arms and rolling her eyes.
“Divorce is acceptable, but I hope you won't regret it.” Ethan picked up a fountain pen and decisively signed his name on the divorce agreement.
“Regret my ass!” Henry suddenly snatched the two signed divorce agreements, unable to hide his triumph as he laughed heartily at Ethan. “Hahaha! I didn't expect you, this fool, to sign the agreement so readily. I thought I'd need to use a bit of force to make you willing! You surely didn't read the agreement carefully, did you? Let me tell you, you've already signed your name. All the money you previously gave to Olivia and our family is considered a gift. You can't claim it back! Moreover, Olivia won't bear any of your debts! Hahaha! Are you regretting it now? Are you angry?”
