Chapter 90

When I dragged my attention back to him, it was to find him busy with something else. I refocused on my cooking, picking up the red onions from the basket and expertly chopping it into tiny pieces. Seats had been arranged around two large tables on which we would serve the meal we had prepared, after we were done. The council members would sit at one of the tables, while the workers would seat at the other. We rounded up our cooking in a few minutes, packing the food neatly into trays as the scent of grilled chicken and freshly made salad filled the air. The noise around the pack center had grown louder. The workers were more at ease now that they were down with their work for the day and were no longer being barked at.
